⁷³^(A)Your hands have made and fashioned me;
    ^(B)give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.
⁷⁴Those who fear you shall see me and ^(C)rejoice,
    because I have ^(D)hoped in your word.
⁷⁵I know, O Lord, that your rules are ^(E)righteous,
    and that in ^(F)faithfulness you have afflicted me.
⁷⁶Let your steadfast love comfort me
    according to your promise to your servant.
⁷⁷Let your ^(G)mercy come to me, that I may live;
    for your law is my ^(H)delight.
⁷⁸Let ^(I)the insolent be put to ^(J)shame,
    because they have ^(K)wronged me with falsehood;
    as for me, I will ^(L)meditate on your precepts.
⁷⁹Let those who fear you ^(M)turn to me,
    that they may know your testimonies.
⁸⁰May my heart be ^(N)blameless in your statutes,

Bildad Speaks: God Punishes the Wicked

18 Then ^(A)Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:

²“How long will you ^(B)hunt for words?
    Consider, and then we will speak.
³Why are we counted as ^(C)cattle?
    Why are we stupid in your sight?
⁴You who ^(D)tear yourself in your anger,
    shall the earth be forsaken for you,
    or ^(E)the rock be removed out of its place?

⁵“Indeed, ^(F)the light of the wicked is put out,
    and the flame of his fire does not shine.
⁶The light is ^(G)dark in his tent,
    and his lamp above him is put out.
⁷His strong steps are shortened,
    and his ^(H)own schemes throw him down.
⁸For he is cast into a net by his own feet,
    and he walks on its mesh.
⁹^(I)A trap seizes him by the heel;
    a snare lays hold of him.
¹⁰A rope is hidden for him in the ground,
    a trap for him in the path.
¹¹^(J)Terrors frighten him on every side,
    and chase him at his heels.
¹²His strength is famished,
    and calamity is ^(K)ready for his stumbling.
¹³It consumes the parts of his skin;
    ^(L)the firstborn of death consumes his limbs.
¹⁴He is torn from the tent in which he trusted
    and is brought to ^(M)the king of terrors.
¹⁵In his tent dwells that which is none of his;
    ^(N)sulfur is scattered over his habitation.
¹⁶His ^(O)roots dry up beneath,
    and his branches ^(P)wither above.
¹⁷His ^(Q)memory perishes from the earth,
    and he has no name in the street.
¹⁸^(R)He is thrust from light into darkness,
    and driven out of the world.
¹⁹He has no ^(S)posterity or progeny among his people,
    and no survivor where he used to live.
²⁰They of the west are appalled at his ^(T)day,
    and ^(U)horror seizes them of the east.
²¹Surely such are the dwellings of the unrighteous,
    such is the place of him who ^(V)knows not God.”

Hebrews 9:15-28

¹⁵Therefore he is ^(A)the mediator of a new covenant, so that ^(B)those who are called may ^(C)receive the promised eternal inheritance, ^(D)since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.^[a] ¹⁶For where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must be established. ¹⁷For ^(E)a will takes effect only at death, since it is not in force as long as the one who made it is alive. ¹⁸Therefore not even the first covenant was inaugurated ^(F)without blood. ¹⁹For when every commandment of the law had been declared by Moses to all the people, he took ^(G)the blood of calves and goats, ^(H)with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, ²⁰saying, ^(I)“This is the blood of the covenant that God commanded for you.” ²¹And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both ^(J)the tent and all the vessels used in worship. ²²Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and ^(K)without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

²³Thus it was necessary for ^(L)the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. ²⁴For Christ has entered, not into holy places ^(M)made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God ^(N)on our behalf. ²⁵Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as ^(O)the high priest enters ^(P)the holy places every year with blood not his own, ²⁶for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, ^(Q)he has appeared ^(R)once for all ^(S)at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. ²⁷And just as ^(T)it is appointed for man to die once, and ^(U)after that comes judgment, ²⁸so Christ, having been offered once ^(V)to bear the sins of ^(W)many, will appear ^(X)a second time, ^(Y)not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly ^(Z)waiting for him.
