Psalm 109-118

^6 (H)Appoint a wicked man ^(I)against him;
    let an accuser stand ^(J)at his right hand.
⁷ When he is tried, let him come forth guilty;
    let his ^(K)prayer be counted as sin!
⁸ May his ^(L)days be few;
    may ^(M)another take his ^(N)office!
⁹ May his ^(O)children be fatherless
    and his wife a widow!
¹⁰ May his children ^(P)wander about and beg,
    ^(Q)seeking food far from the ruins they inhabit!
¹¹ May ^(R)the creditor seize all that he has;
    may ^(S)strangers plunder the fruits of his toil!
¹² Let there be none to ^(T)extend kindness to him,
    nor any to ^(U)pity his fatherless children!
¹³ May his ^(V)posterity be cut off;
    may his ^(W)name be blotted out in the second generation!
¹⁴ May ^(X)the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord,
    and let not the sin of his mother be ^(Y)blotted out!
^15 (Z)Let them be before the Lord continually,
    that he may ^(AA)cut off the memory of them from the earth!

¹⁶ For he did not remember to show kindness,
    but pursued ^(AB)the poor and needy
    and ^(AC)the brokenhearted, to put them to death.
^17 (AD)He loved to curse; let curses come^[b] upon him!
    He did not delight in blessing; may it be far^[c] from him!
¹⁸ He ^(AE)clothed himself with cursing as his coat;
    may it ^(AF)soak^[d] into his body like water,
    like oil into his bones!
¹⁹ May it be like a garment that he wraps around him,
    like a belt that he puts on every day!
²⁰ May this be the reward of my ^(AG)accusers from the Lord,
    of those who speak evil against my life!

²¹ But you, O God my Lord,
    deal on my behalf ^(AH)for your name's sake;
    because your ^(AI)steadfast love is good, deliver me!
²² For I am ^(AJ)poor and needy,
    and my heart is stricken within me.
²³ I am gone like ^(AK)a shadow at evening;
    I am ^(AL)shaken off like a locust.
²⁴ My knees are weak ^(AM)through fasting;
    my ^(AN)body has become gaunt, with no fat.
²⁵ I am ^(AO)an object of scorn to my accusers;
    when they see me, they ^(AP)wag their heads.

^26 (AQ)Help me, O Lord my God!
    Save me according to your steadfast love!
²⁷ Let them ^(AR)know that this is your hand;
    you, O Lord, have done it!
^28 (AS)Let them curse, but you will bless!
    They arise and are put to shame, but ^(AT)your servant will be glad!
²⁹ May my accusers be ^(AU)clothed with dishonor;
    may they ^(AV)be wrapped in their own shame as in a cloak!

³⁰ With my mouth I will give great thanks to the Lord;
    I will ^(AW)praise him in the midst of the throng.
³¹ For he stands ^(AX)at the right hand of the needy one,
    to save him from those who condemn his soul to death.

² The Lord sends forth ^(BC)from Zion
    ^(BD)your mighty scepter.
    ^(BE)Rule in the midst of your enemies!
^3 (BF)Your people will ^(BG)offer themselves freely
    on the day of your ^(BH)power,^[e]
    in ^(BI)holy garments;^[f]
from the womb of the morning,
    the dew of your youth will be yours.^[g]
4 (BJ)The Lord has ^(BK)sworn
    and will ^(BL)not change his mind,
^(BM)“You are ^(BN)a priest ^(BO)forever
    after the order of ^(BP)Melchizedek.”

⁵ The Lord is at your ^(BQ)right hand;
    he will ^(BR)shatter kings on ^(BS)the day of his wrath.
⁶ He will ^(BT)execute judgment among the nations,
    ^(BU)filling them with corpses;
he will ^(BV)shatter chiefs^[h]
    over the wide earth.
⁷ He will ^(BW)drink from the brook by the way;
    therefore he will lift up his head.

^2 (DM)Blessed be the name of the Lord
    from this time forth and forevermore!
^3 (DN)From the rising of the sun to its setting,
    ^(DO)the name of the Lord is ^(DP)to be praised!

⁴ The Lord is ^(DQ)high above all nations,
    and his ^(DR)glory above the heavens!
^5 (DS)Who is like the Lord our God,
    who is seated on high,
⁶ who ^(DT)looks far down
    on the heavens and the earth?
⁷ He ^(DU)raises the poor from the dust
    and lifts the needy from the ash heap,
⁸ to make them ^(DV)sit with princes,
    with the princes of his people.
⁹ He ^(DW)gives the barren woman a home,
    making her the joyous mother of children.
^(DX)Praise the Lord!

^3 (EB)The sea looked and fled;
    ^(EC)Jordan turned back.
^4 (ED)The mountains skipped like rams,
    the hills like lambs.

⁵ What ^(EE)ails you, O sea, that you flee?
    O Jordan, that you turn back?
⁶ O mountains, that you skip like rams?
    O hills, like lambs?

^7 (EF)Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
    at the presence of the God of Jacob,
⁸ who turns ^(EG)the rock into ^(EH)a pool of water,
    ^(EI)the flint into a spring of water.

² Why should the nations say,
    ^(EL)“Where is their God?”
^3 (EM)Our God is in the heavens;
    ^(EN)he does all that he pleases.

^4 (EO)Their idols are silver and gold,
    ^(EP)the work of human hands.
⁵ They have mouths, ^(EQ)but do not speak;
    eyes, but do not see.
⁶ They have ears, but do not hear;
    noses, but do not smell.
⁷ They have hands, but do not feel;
    feet, but do not walk;
    and they do not make a sound in their throat.
^8 (ER)Those who make them become like them;
    so do all who trust in them.

⁹ O ^(ES)Israel,^{[l] (ET)}trust in the Lord!
    He is their ^(EU)help and their shield.
¹⁰ O ^(EV)house of Aaron, trust in the Lord!
    He is their help and ^(EW)their shield.
¹¹ You ^(EX)who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord!
    He is their help and their shield.

¹² The Lord has remembered us; he will bless us;
    he will bless ^(EY)the house of Israel;
    he will bless ^(EZ)the house of Aaron;
¹³ he will ^(FA)bless those who fear the Lord,
    ^(FB)both the small and the great.

¹⁴ May the Lord ^(FC)give you increase,
    you and your children!
¹⁵ May ^(FD)you be blessed by the Lord,
    ^(FE)who made heaven and earth!

¹⁶ The heavens are the Lord's heavens,
    but the earth he has given to the children of man.
^17 (FF)The dead do not praise the Lord,
    nor do any who go down into ^(FG)silence.
¹⁸ But ^(FH)we will bless the Lord
    from this time forth and forevermore.
^(FI)Praise the Lord!

^5 (FO)Gracious is the Lord, and ^(FP)righteous;
    our God is ^(FQ)merciful.
⁶ The Lord preserves ^(FR)the simple;
    when ^(FS)I was brought low, he saved me.
⁷ Return, O my soul, to your ^(FT)rest;
    for the Lord has ^(FU)dealt bountifully with you.

⁸ For ^(FV)you have delivered my soul from death,
    my eyes from tears,
    my feet from stumbling;
⁹ I will walk before the Lord
    ^(FW)in the land of the living.

^10 (FX)I believed, ^(FY)even when^[m] I spoke:
    “I am greatly afflicted”;
^11 (FZ)I said in my alarm,
    ^(GA)“All mankind are liars.”

¹² What shall I ^(GB)render to the Lord
    for all his benefits to me?
¹³ I will lift up ^(GC)the cup of salvation
    and ^(GD)call on the name of the Lord,
¹⁴ I will ^(GE)pay my vows to the Lord
    in the presence of all his people.

^15 (GF)Precious in the sight of the Lord
    is the death of his ^(GG)saints.
¹⁶ O Lord, I am your ^(GH)servant;
    I am your servant, ^(GI)the son of your maidservant.
    You have ^(GJ)loosed my bonds.
¹⁷ I will ^(GK)offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving
    and ^(GL)call on the name of the Lord.
¹⁸ I will ^(GM)pay my vows to the Lord
    in the presence of all his people,
¹⁹ in ^(GN)the courts of the house of the Lord,
    in your midst, O Jerusalem.
^(GO)Praise the Lord!

^2 (GU)Let Israel say,
    “His steadfast love endures forever.”
^3 (GV)Let the house of Aaron say,
    “His steadfast love endures forever.”
^4 (GW)Let those who fear the Lord say,
    “His steadfast love endures forever.”

^5 (GX)Out of my distress I ^(GY)called on the Lord;
    the Lord answered me and set me ^(GZ)free.
^6 (HA)The Lord is on my side; ^(HB)I will not fear.
    What can man do to me?
^7 (HC)The Lord is on my side as my helper;
    I shall ^(HD)look in triumph on those who hate me.

^8 (HE)It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    ^(HF)than to trust in man.
⁹ It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    ^(HG)than to trust in princes.

^10 (HH)All nations surrounded me;
    in the name of the Lord I cut them off!
¹¹ They surrounded me, surrounded me on every side;
    in the name of the Lord I cut them off!
^12 (HI)They surrounded me like bees;
    they went out like ^(HJ)a fire among thorns;
    in the name of the Lord I cut them off!
¹³ I was ^(HK)pushed hard,^[n] so that I was falling,
    but the Lord helped me.

¹⁴ The Lord is my strength and my song;
    ^(HL)he has become my salvation.
¹⁵ Glad songs of salvation
    are in the tents of the righteous:
^(HM)“The right hand of the Lord ^(HN)does valiantly,
¹⁶     the right hand of the Lord exalts,
    the right hand of the Lord ^(HO)does valiantly!”

^17 (HP)I shall not die, but I shall live,
    and ^(HQ)recount the deeds of the Lord.
¹⁸ The Lord has ^(HR)disciplined me severely,
    but he has not given me over to death.

^19 (HS)Open to me the gates of righteousness,
    that I may enter through them
    and give thanks to the Lord.
²⁰ This is the gate of the Lord;
    ^(HT)the righteous shall enter through it.
²¹ I thank you that ^(HU)you have answered me
    ^(HV)and have become my salvation.
^22 (HW)The stone that the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone.^[o]
23 This is the Lord's doing;
    it is marvelous in our eyes.
²⁴ This is the day that the Lord has made;
    let us rejoice and be glad in it.

²⁵ Save us, we pray, O Lord!
    O Lord, we pray, give us success!

^26 (HX)Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
    We ^(HY)bless you from the house of the Lord.
²⁷ The Lord is God,
    and he has made ^(HZ)his light to shine upon us.
Bind the festal sacrifice with cords,
    up to ^(IA)the horns of the altar!

²⁸ You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;
    you are my God; I will ^(IB)extol you.
^29 (IC)Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    for his steadfast love endures forever!
