Psalm 106:1-6

Give Thanks to the Lord, for He Is Good

106 ^(A)Praise the Lord!
^(B)Oh give thanks to the Lord, ^(C)for he is good,
    ^(D)for his steadfast love endures forever!
²Who can utter the mighty deeds of the Lord,
    or declare all his praise?
³Blessed are they who observe justice,
    who ^(E)do righteousness at all times!

⁴^(F)Remember me, O Lord, when you show favor to your people;
    help me when you save them,^[a]
⁵that I may look upon the prosperity of your ^(G)chosen ones,
    that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation,
    that I may glory with your inheritance.

⁶^(H)Both we and ^(I)our fathers have sinned;
we have committed iniquity; we have done wickedness.

    who had done great things in Egypt,

    and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
²³Therefore ^(E)he said he would destroy them—
    had not Moses, his ^(F)chosen one,
^(G)stood in the breach before him,
    to turn away his wrath from destroying them.

¹²The Lord said to Moses, ^(A)“Come up to me on the mountain and wait there, that I may give you the ^(B)tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction.” ¹³So Moses rose with his assistant ^(C)Joshua, and Moses went up ^(D)into the mountain of God. ¹⁴And he said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, Aaron and ^(E)Hur are with you. Whoever has a dispute, let him go to them.”

¹⁵Then Moses went up on the mountain, and ^(F)the cloud covered the mountain. ¹⁶^(G)The glory of the Lord dwelt on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. ¹⁷Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a ^(H)devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. ¹⁸Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain. And Moses ^(I)was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

A Question About Fasting

¹⁸Now ^(A)John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. And people came and said to him, ^(B)“Why do John's disciples and ^(C)the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” ¹⁹And Jesus said to them, ^(D)“Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. ²⁰^(E)The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and ^(F)then they will fast in that day. ²¹No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the patch tears away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made. ²²And no one puts new wine into old ^(G)wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins—and the wine is destroyed, and so are the skins. But new wine is for fresh wineskins.”^[a]
