Psalm 105:15-118:1

¹⁶ When he ^(B)summoned a famine on the land
    and ^(C)broke all supply^[a] of bread,
¹⁷ he had ^(D)sent a man ahead of them,
    Joseph, who was ^(E)sold as a slave.
¹⁸ His ^(F)feet were hurt with fetters;
    his neck was put in a collar of iron;
¹⁹ until ^(G)what he had said came to pass,
    the word of the Lord ^(H)tested him.
^20 (I)The king sent and ^(J)released him;
    the ruler of the peoples set him free;
²¹ he ^(K)made him lord of his house
    and ruler of all his possessions,
²² to bind^[b] his princes at his pleasure
    and to teach his elders wisdom.

²³ Then ^(L)Israel came to Egypt;
    Jacob ^(M)sojourned in ^(N)the land of Ham.
²⁴ And the Lord ^(O)made his people very fruitful
    and made them stronger than their foes.
²⁵ He ^(P)turned their hearts to hate his people,
    to ^(Q)deal craftily with his servants.

²⁶ He ^(R)sent Moses, his servant,
    and Aaron, ^(S)whom he had chosen.
^27 (T)They performed his signs among them
    and miracles in ^(U)the land of Ham.
²⁸ He ^(V)sent darkness, and made the land dark;
    they ^(W)did not rebel^[c] against his words.
²⁹ He turned their waters into blood
    and ^(X)caused their fish to die.
³⁰ Their land swarmed with frogs,
    even in ^(Y)the chambers of their kings.
³¹ He spoke, and there came ^(Z)swarms of flies,
    ^(AA)and gnats throughout their country.
³² He gave them hail for rain,
    and fiery ^(AB)lightning bolts through their land.
³³ He struck down their vines and fig trees,
    and ^(AC)shattered the trees of their country.
³⁴ He spoke, and the ^(AD)locusts came,
    young locusts without number,
³⁵ which devoured all the vegetation in their land
    and ate up the fruit of their ground.
³⁶ He ^(AE)struck down all the firstborn in their land,
    ^(AF)the firstfruits of all their strength.

³⁷ Then he brought out Israel with ^(AG)silver and gold,
    and there was none among his tribes who stumbled.
^38 (AH)Egypt was glad when they departed,
    for ^(AI)dread of them had fallen upon it.

³⁹ He ^(AJ)spread a cloud for a covering,
    and fire to give light by night.
^40 (AK)They asked, and he ^(AL)brought quail,
    and gave them ^(AM)bread from heaven in abundance.
⁴¹ He opened the rock, and ^(AN)water gushed out;
    it flowed through ^(AO)the desert like a river.
⁴² For he ^(AP)remembered his holy promise,
    and ^(AQ)Abraham, his servant.

⁴³ So he brought his people out with joy,
    his ^(AR)chosen ones with ^(AS)singing.
⁴⁴ And he ^(AT)gave them the lands of the nations,
    and they took possession of the fruit of the peoples' toil,
⁴⁵ that they might ^(AU)keep his statutes
    and ^(AV)observe his laws.
^(AW)Praise the Lord!

^4 (BC)Remember me, O Lord, when you show favor to your people;
    help me when you save them,^[d]
5 that I may look upon the prosperity of your ^(BD)chosen ones,
    that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation,
    that I may glory with your inheritance.

^6 (BE)Both we and ^(BF)our fathers have sinned;
    we have committed iniquity; we have done wickedness.
⁷ Our fathers, when they were in Egypt,
    did not consider your wondrous works;
they ^(BG)did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love,
    but ^(BH)rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.
⁸ Yet he saved them ^(BI)for his name's sake,
    ^(BJ)that he might make known his mighty power.
⁹ He ^(BK)rebuked the Red Sea, and it ^(BL)became dry,
    and he ^(BM)led them through the deep as through a desert.
¹⁰ So he ^(BN)saved them from the hand of the foe
    and ^(BO)redeemed them from the power of the enemy.
¹¹ And ^(BP)the waters covered their adversaries;
    not one of them was left.
¹² Then ^(BQ)they believed his words;
    they ^(BR)sang his praise.

¹³ But they soon ^(BS)forgot his works;
    they did not wait for ^(BT)his counsel.
¹⁴ But they had ^(BU)a wanton craving in the wilderness,
    and ^(BV)put God to the test in the desert;
¹⁵ he ^(BW)gave them what they asked,
    but sent ^(BX)a wasting disease among them.

¹⁶ When men in the camp ^(BY)were jealous of Moses
    and Aaron, ^(BZ)the holy one of the Lord,
^17 (CA)the earth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
    and covered the company of Abiram.
^18 (CB)Fire also broke out in their company;
    the flame burned up the wicked.

¹⁹ They ^(CC)made a calf in Horeb
    and worshiped a metal image.
²⁰ They ^(CD)exchanged the glory of God^[e]
    for the image of an ox that eats grass.
²¹ They ^(CE)forgot God, their Savior,
    who had done great things in Egypt,
²² wondrous works in ^(CF)the land of Ham,
    and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
²³ Therefore ^(CG)he said he would destroy them—
    had not Moses, his ^(CH)chosen one,
^(CI)stood in the breach before him,
    to turn away his wrath from destroying them.

²⁴ Then they ^(CJ)despised ^(CK)the pleasant land,
    having ^(CL)no faith in his promise.
²⁵ They ^(CM)murmured in their tents,
    and did not obey the voice of the Lord.
²⁶ Therefore he ^(CN)raised his hand and swore to them
    that he would make them fall in the wilderness,
²⁷ and would make their offspring fall among the nations,
    ^(CO)scattering them among the lands.

²⁸ Then they ^(CP)yoked themselves to the ^(CQ)Baal of Peor,
    and ate sacrifices offered to ^(CR)the dead;
²⁹ they provoked the Lord to anger with their deeds,
    and a plague broke out among them.
³⁰ Then ^(CS)Phinehas stood up and intervened,
    and the plague was stayed.
³¹ And that was ^(CT)counted to him as righteousness
    from generation to generation forever.

³² They ^(CU)angered him at the waters of Meribah,
    and it went ill with Moses on their account,
³³ for they ^(CV)made his spirit bitter,^[f]
    and he ^(CW)spoke rashly with his lips.

³⁴ They did not ^(CX)destroy the peoples,
    ^(CY)as the Lord commanded them,
³⁵ but they ^(CZ)mixed with the nations
    and learned to do as they did.
³⁶ They served their idols,
    which became ^(DA)a snare to them.
³⁷ They ^(DB)sacrificed their sons
    and their daughters to ^(DC)the demons;
³⁸ they poured out innocent blood,
    the blood of their sons and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
    and the land was ^(DD)polluted with blood.
³⁹ Thus they ^(DE)became unclean by their acts,
    and ^(DF)played the whore in their deeds.

⁴⁰ Then ^(DG)the anger of the Lord was kindled against ^(DH)his people,
    and he abhorred his ^(DI)heritage;
⁴¹ he ^(DJ)gave them into the hand of the nations,
    so that those who hated them ruled over them.
⁴² Their enemies ^(DK)oppressed them,
    and they were brought into subjection under their power.
^43 (DL)Many times he delivered them,
    but they were rebellious in their ^(DM)purposes
    and were ^(DN)brought low through their iniquity.

⁴⁴ Nevertheless, he looked upon their distress,
    when he ^(DO)heard their cry.
⁴⁵ For their sake he ^(DP)remembered his covenant,
    and ^(DQ)relented according to ^(DR)the abundance of his steadfast love.
⁴⁶ He caused them to be ^(DS)pitied
    by all those who held them captive.

^47 (DT)Save us, O Lord our God,
    and ^(DU)gather us from among the nations,
that we may give thanks to your holy name
    and glory in your praise.

^48 (DV)Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
    from everlasting to everlasting!
^(DW)And let all the people say, “Amen!”
    ^(DX)Praise the Lord!

⁴ Some ^(ED)wandered in desert wastes,
    finding no way ^(EE)to a city to dwell in;
⁵ hungry and thirsty,
    their soul ^(EF)fainted within them.
⁶ Then they ^(EG)cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
⁷ He led them by ^(EH)a straight way
    till they reached ^(EI)a city to dwell in.
^8 (EJ)Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
    for his wondrous works to the children of man!
⁹ For he ^(EK)satisfies the longing soul,
    ^(EL)and the hungry soul he fills with good things.

^10 (EM)Some sat in darkness and in ^(EN)the shadow of death,
    prisoners in ^(EO)affliction and in irons,
¹¹ for they ^(EP)had rebelled against the words of God,
    and ^(EQ)spurned the counsel of the Most High.
¹² So he bowed their hearts down with hard labor;
    they fell down, ^(ER)with none to help.
^13 (ES)Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
¹⁴ He brought them out of ^(ET)darkness and the shadow of death,
    and ^(EU)burst their bonds apart.
^15 (EV)Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
    for his wondrous works to the children of man!
¹⁶ For he ^(EW)shatters the doors of bronze
    and cuts in two the bars of iron.

¹⁷ Some were ^(EX)fools through their sinful ways,
    and because of their iniquities suffered affliction;
^18 (EY)they loathed any kind of food,
    and they ^(EZ)drew near to ^(FA)the gates of death.
^19 (FB)Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
²⁰ He ^(FC)sent out his word and ^(FD)healed them,
    and ^(FE)delivered them from their destruction.
^21 (FF)Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
    for his wondrous works to the children of man!
²² And let them ^(FG)offer sacrifices of thanksgiving,
    and ^(FH)tell of his deeds in ^(FI)songs of joy!

²³ Some ^(FJ)went down to the sea in ships,
    doing business on the great waters;
²⁴ they saw the deeds of the Lord,
    his wondrous works in the deep.
²⁵ For he ^(FK)commanded and ^(FL)raised the stormy wind,
    which lifted up the waves of the sea.
²⁶ They mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths;
    their courage ^(FM)melted away in their evil plight;
²⁷ they reeled and ^(FN)staggered like drunken men
    and ^(FO)were at their wits' end.^[h]
28 (FP)Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
²⁹ He ^(FQ)made the storm be still,
    and the waves of the sea were hushed.
³⁰ Then they were glad that the waters^[i] were quiet,
    and he brought them to their desired haven.
^31 (FR)Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
    for his wondrous works to the children of man!
³² Let them ^(FS)extol him in ^(FT)the congregation of the people,
    and praise him in the assembly of the elders.

³³ He ^(FU)turns rivers into a desert,
    springs of water into thirsty ground,
^34 (FV)a fruitful land into a salty waste,
    because of the evil of its inhabitants.
³⁵ He ^(FW)turns a desert into pools of water,
    ^(FX)a parched land into springs of water.
³⁶ And there he lets the hungry dwell,
    and they establish ^(FY)a city to live in;
³⁷ they sow fields and plant vineyards
    and get a fruitful yield.
^38 (FZ)By his blessing they multiply greatly,
    and he does not let their livestock diminish.

³⁹ When they are diminished and brought low
    through oppression, evil, and sorrow,
^40 (GA)he pours contempt on princes
    and ^(GB)makes them wander ^(GC)in trackless wastes;
⁴¹ but ^(GD)he raises up the needy out of affliction
    and ^(GE)makes their families like flocks.
^42 (GF)The upright see it and are glad,
    and ^(GG)all wickedness shuts its mouth.

^43 (GH)Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things;
    let them consider the steadfast love of the Lord.

⁵ Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
    Let your glory be over all the earth!
^6 (GK)That your beloved ones may be delivered,
    give salvation by your right hand and answer me!

⁷ God has promised in his holiness:^[k]
    “With exultation I will divide up Shechem
    and portion out the Valley of Succoth.
⁸ Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine;
    Ephraim is my helmet,
    Judah my scepter.
⁹ Moab is my washbasin;
    upon Edom I cast my shoe;
    ^(GL)over Philistia I shout in triumph.”

¹⁰ Who will bring me to the fortified city?
    Who will lead me to Edom?
¹¹ Have you not rejected us, O God?
    You do not go out, O God, with our armies.
¹² Oh grant us help against the foe,
    for vain is the salvation of man!
¹³ With God we shall do valiantly;
    it is he who will tread down our foes.

^6 (GT)Appoint a wicked man ^(GU)against him;
    let an accuser stand ^(GV)at his right hand.
⁷ When he is tried, let him come forth guilty;
    let his ^(GW)prayer be counted as sin!
⁸ May his ^(GX)days be few;
    may ^(GY)another take his ^(GZ)office!
⁹ May his ^(HA)children be fatherless
    and his wife a widow!
¹⁰ May his children ^(HB)wander about and beg,
    ^(HC)seeking food far from the ruins they inhabit!
¹¹ May ^(HD)the creditor seize all that he has;
    may ^(HE)strangers plunder the fruits of his toil!
¹² Let there be none to ^(HF)extend kindness to him,
    nor any to ^(HG)pity his fatherless children!
¹³ May his ^(HH)posterity be cut off;
    may his ^(HI)name be blotted out in the second generation!
¹⁴ May ^(HJ)the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord,
    and let not the sin of his mother be ^(HK)blotted out!
^15 (HL)Let them be before the Lord continually,
    that he may ^(HM)cut off the memory of them from the earth!

¹⁶ For he did not remember to show kindness,
    but pursued ^(HN)the poor and needy
    and ^(HO)the brokenhearted, to put them to death.
^17 (HP)He loved to curse; let curses come^[m] upon him!
    He did not delight in blessing; may it be far^[n] from him!
¹⁸ He ^(HQ)clothed himself with cursing as his coat;
    may it ^(HR)soak^[o] into his body like water,
    like oil into his bones!
¹⁹ May it be like a garment that he wraps around him,
    like a belt that he puts on every day!
²⁰ May this be the reward of my ^(HS)accusers from the Lord,
    of those who speak evil against my life!

²¹ But you, O God my Lord,
    deal on my behalf ^(HT)for your name's sake;
    because your ^(HU)steadfast love is good, deliver me!
²² For I am ^(HV)poor and needy,
    and my heart is stricken within me.
²³ I am gone like ^(HW)a shadow at evening;
    I am ^(HX)shaken off like a locust.
²⁴ My knees are weak ^(HY)through fasting;
    my ^(HZ)body has become gaunt, with no fat.
²⁵ I am ^(IA)an object of scorn to my accusers;
    when they see me, they ^(IB)wag their heads.

^26 (IC)Help me, O Lord my God!
    Save me according to your steadfast love!
²⁷ Let them ^(ID)know that this is your hand;
    you, O Lord, have done it!
^28 (IE)Let them curse, but you will bless!
    They arise and are put to shame, but ^(IF)your servant will be glad!
²⁹ May my accusers be ^(IG)clothed with dishonor;
    may they ^(IH)be wrapped in their own shame as in a cloak!

³⁰ With my mouth I will give great thanks to the Lord;
    I will ^(II)praise him in the midst of the throng.
³¹ For he stands ^(IJ)at the right hand of the needy one,
    to save him from those who condemn his soul to death.

² The Lord sends forth ^(IO)from Zion
    ^(IP)your mighty scepter.
    ^(IQ)Rule in the midst of your enemies!
^3 (IR)Your people will ^(IS)offer themselves freely
    on the day of your ^(IT)power,^[p]
    in ^(IU)holy garments;^[q]
from the womb of the morning,
    the dew of your youth will be yours.^[r]
4 (IV)The Lord has ^(IW)sworn
    and will ^(IX)not change his mind,
^(IY)“You are ^(IZ)a priest ^(JA)forever
    after the order of ^(JB)Melchizedek.”

⁵ The Lord is at your ^(JC)right hand;
    he will ^(JD)shatter kings on ^(JE)the day of his wrath.
⁶ He will ^(JF)execute judgment among the nations,
    ^(JG)filling them with corpses;
he will ^(JH)shatter chiefs^[s]
    over the wide earth.
⁷ He will ^(JI)drink from the brook by the way;
    therefore he will lift up his head.

^2 (KY)Blessed be the name of the Lord
    from this time forth and forevermore!
^3 (KZ)From the rising of the sun to its setting,
    ^(LA)the name of the Lord is ^(LB)to be praised!

⁴ The Lord is ^(LC)high above all nations,
    and his ^(LD)glory above the heavens!
^5 (LE)Who is like the Lord our God,
    who is seated on high,
⁶ who ^(LF)looks far down
    on the heavens and the earth?
⁷ He ^(LG)raises the poor from the dust
    and lifts the needy from the ash heap,
⁸ to make them ^(LH)sit with princes,
    with the princes of his people.
⁹ He ^(LI)gives the barren woman a home,
    making her the joyous mother of children.
^(LJ)Praise the Lord!

^3 (LN)The sea looked and fled;
    ^(LO)Jordan turned back.
^4 (LP)The mountains skipped like rams,
    the hills like lambs.

⁵ What ^(LQ)ails you, O sea, that you flee?
    O Jordan, that you turn back?
⁶ O mountains, that you skip like rams?
    O hills, like lambs?

^7 (LR)Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
    at the presence of the God of Jacob,
⁸ who turns ^(LS)the rock into ^(LT)a pool of water,
    ^(LU)the flint into a spring of water.

² Why should the nations say,
    ^(LX)“Where is their God?”
^3 (LY)Our God is in the heavens;
    ^(LZ)he does all that he pleases.

^4 (MA)Their idols are silver and gold,
    ^(MB)the work of human hands.
⁵ They have mouths, ^(MC)but do not speak;
    eyes, but do not see.
⁶ They have ears, but do not hear;
    noses, but do not smell.
⁷ They have hands, but do not feel;
    feet, but do not walk;
    and they do not make a sound in their throat.
^8 (MD)Those who make them become like them;
    so do all who trust in them.

⁹ O ^(ME)Israel,^{[w] (MF)}trust in the Lord!
    He is their ^(MG)help and their shield.
¹⁰ O ^(MH)house of Aaron, trust in the Lord!
    He is their help and ^(MI)their shield.
¹¹ You ^(MJ)who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord!
    He is their help and their shield.

¹² The Lord has remembered us; he will bless us;
    he will bless ^(MK)the house of Israel;
    he will bless ^(ML)the house of Aaron;
¹³ he will ^(MM)bless those who fear the Lord,
    ^(MN)both the small and the great.

¹⁴ May the Lord ^(MO)give you increase,
    you and your children!
¹⁵ May ^(MP)you be blessed by the Lord,
    ^(MQ)who made heaven and earth!

¹⁶ The heavens are the Lord's heavens,
    but the earth he has given to the children of man.
^17 (MR)The dead do not praise the Lord,
    nor do any who go down into ^(MS)silence.
¹⁸ But ^(MT)we will bless the Lord
    from this time forth and forevermore.
^(MU)Praise the Lord!

^5 (NA)Gracious is the Lord, and ^(NB)righteous;
    our God is ^(NC)merciful.
⁶ The Lord preserves ^(ND)the simple;
    when ^(NE)I was brought low, he saved me.
⁷ Return, O my soul, to your ^(NF)rest;
    for the Lord has ^(NG)dealt bountifully with you.

⁸ For ^(NH)you have delivered my soul from death,
    my eyes from tears,
    my feet from stumbling;
⁹ I will walk before the Lord
    ^(NI)in the land of the living.

^10 (NJ)I believed, ^(NK)even when^[x] I spoke:
    “I am greatly afflicted”;
^11 (NL)I said in my alarm,
    ^(NM)“All mankind are liars.”

¹² What shall I ^(NN)render to the Lord
    for all his benefits to me?
¹³ I will lift up ^(NO)the cup of salvation
    and ^(NP)call on the name of the Lord,
¹⁴ I will ^(NQ)pay my vows to the Lord
    in the presence of all his people.

^15 (NR)Precious in the sight of the Lord
    is the death of his ^(NS)saints.
¹⁶ O Lord, I am your ^(NT)servant;
    I am your servant, ^(NU)the son of your maidservant.
    You have ^(NV)loosed my bonds.
¹⁷ I will ^(NW)offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving
    and ^(NX)call on the name of the Lord.
¹⁸ I will ^(NY)pay my vows to the Lord
    in the presence of all his people,
¹⁹ in ^(NZ)the courts of the house of the Lord,
    in your midst, O Jerusalem.
^(OA)Praise the Lord!
