Psalm 104-105

New American Standard Bible

The Lord’s Care over All His Works.

104 ^(A)Bless the Lord, my soul!
Lord my God, You are very great;
You are ^(B)clothed with splendor and majesty,
²Covering Yourself with ^(C)light as with a cloak,
^(D)Stretching out heaven like a tent curtain.
³^[a]He ^(E)lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters;
^[b]He makes the ^(F)clouds His chariot;
^[c]He walks on the ^(G)wings of the wind;
⁴^[d]He makes ^[e]^(H)the winds His messengers,
^[f]Flaming ^(I)fire His ministers.

⁵He ^(J)established the earth upon its foundations,
So that it will not ^[g]totter forever and ever.
⁶You ^(K)covered it with the deep sea as with a garment;
The waters were standing above the mountains.
⁷They fled from Your ^(L)rebuke,
At the ^(M)sound of Your thunder they hurried away.
⁸The mountains rose; the valleys sank down
To the ^(N)place which You established for them.
⁹You set a ^(O)boundary so that they will not pass over,
So that they will not return to cover the earth.

¹⁰^[h]He sends forth ^(P)springs in the valleys;
They flow between the mountains;
¹¹They ^(Q)give drink to every animal of the field;
The ^(R)wild donkeys quench their thirst.
¹²The birds of the sky ^(S)dwell ^[i]beside them;
They ^[j]lift up their voices from among the branches.
¹³^[k]He ^(T)waters the mountains from His upper chambers;
^(U)The earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works.

¹⁴^[l]He causes the ^(V)grass to grow for the ^[m]cattle,
And ^(W)vegetation for the labor of mankind,
So that ^[n]they may produce ^[o]food ^(X)from the earth,
¹⁵And ^(Y)wine, which makes a human heart cheerful,
^(Z)So that he makes his face gleam with oil,
And ^[p]food, which ^(AA)sustains a human heart.
¹⁶The trees of the Lord ^[q]drink their fill,
The cedars of Lebanon which He planted,
¹⁷Where the ^(AB)birds build their nests,
And the ^(AC)stork, whose home is the juniper trees.

¹⁸The high mountains are for the ^(AD)wild goats;
The ^(AE)cliffs are a refuge for the ^(AF)rock hyrax.
¹⁹He made the moon ^(AG)for the seasons;
The ^(AH)sun knows the place of its setting.
²⁰You ^(AI)appoint darkness and it becomes night,
In which all the ^(AJ)animals of the forest ^[r]prowl about.
²¹The ^(AK)young lions roar for their prey
^[s]And ^(AL)seek their food from God.
²²When the sun rises they withdraw,
And they lie down in their ^(AM)dens.
²³A person goes out to ^(AN)his work
And to his labor until evening.

²⁴Lord, how ^(AO)many are Your works!
^[t]In ^(AP)wisdom You have made them all;
The ^(AQ)earth is full of Your ^[u]possessions.
²⁵^[v]There is the ^(AR)sea, great and ^[w]broad,
In which are swarms without number,
Animals both small and great.
²⁶The ^(AS)ships move along there,
And ^[x]^(AT)Leviathan, which You have formed to have fun in it.

²⁷They all ^(AU)wait for You
To ^(AV)give them their food in ^[y]due season.
²⁸You give to them, they gather it up;
You ^(AW)open Your hand, they are satisfied with good.
²⁹You ^(AX)hide Your face, they are terrified;
You ^(AY)take away their breath, they perish
And ^(AZ)return to their dust.
³⁰You send forth Your ^[z]^(BA)Spirit, they are created;
And You renew the face of the ground.

³¹May the ^(BB)glory of the Lord endure forever;
May the Lord ^(BC)rejoice in His works;
³²^[aa]He ^(BD)looks at the earth, and it ^(BE)trembles;
He ^(BF)touches the mountains, and they smoke.
³³^[ab]I will sing to the Lord ^[ac]^(BG)as long as I live;
^[ad]I will ^(BH)sing praise to my God ^[ae]while I have my being.
³⁴May my ^(BI)praise be pleasing to Him;
As for me, I shall ^(BJ)rejoice in the Lord.
³⁵May sinners be ^(BK)removed from the earth
And may the ^(BL)wicked be no more.

The Lord’s Wonderful Works in Behalf of Israel.

105 ^(BO)Give thanks to the Lord, ^(BP)call upon His name;
^(BQ)Make His deeds known among the peoples.
²Sing to Him, ^(BR)sing praises to Him;
^[ah]^(BS)Tell of all His ^[ai]wonders.
³Boast in His holy name;
May the ^(BT)heart of those who seek the Lord be joyful.
⁴Seek the Lord and ^(BU)His strength;
^(BV)Seek His face continually.
⁵Remember His ^[aj]^(BW)wonders which He has done,
His marvels and the ^(BX)judgments ^[ak]spoken by His mouth,
⁶You ^[al]descendants of ^(BY)Abraham, His servant,
You sons of ^(BZ)Jacob, His ^(CA)chosen ones!
⁷He is the Lord our God;
His ^(CB)judgments are in all the earth.

⁸He has ^(CC)remembered His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded to a ^(CD)thousand generations,
⁹The ^(CE)covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His ^(CF)oath to Isaac.
¹⁰Then He ^(CG)confirmed it to Jacob as a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
¹¹Saying, “^(CH)To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the ^[am]^(CI)portion of your inheritance,”
¹²When they were only a ^(CJ)few people in number,
Very few, and ^(CK)strangers in it.
¹³And they wandered from nation to nation,
From one kingdom to another people,
¹⁴He ^(CL)allowed no one to oppress them,
And He ^[an]^(CM)rebuked kings for their sakes, saying,
¹⁵“^(CN)Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do not harm My prophets.”

¹⁶And He ^(CO)called for a famine upon the land;
He ^(CP)broke the whole staff of bread.
¹⁷He ^(CQ)sent a man before them,
Joseph, who was ^(CR)sold as a slave.
¹⁸They forced his ^(CS)feet into shackles,
^[ao]He was put in irons;
¹⁹Until the time that his ^(CT)word came to pass,
The word of the Lord ^(CU)refined him.
²⁰The ^(CV)king sent and released him,
The ruler of peoples, and set him free.
²¹He ^(CW)made him lord of his house,
And ruler over all his possessions,
²²To ^[ap]imprison his high officials ^[aq]^(CX)at will,
That he might teach his elders wisdom.
²³^(CY)Israel also came into Egypt;
So Jacob ^(CZ)lived in the land of Ham.
²⁴And He ^(DA)made His people very fruitful,
And made them stronger than their enemies.

²⁵He ^(DB)turned their heart to hate His people,
To ^(DC)deal cunningly with His servants.
²⁶He ^(DD)sent His servant Moses,
And ^(DE)Aaron, whom He had chosen.
²⁷They ^[ar]^(DF)performed His wondrous acts among them,
And miracles in the land of Ham.
²⁸He ^(DG)sent darkness and made it dark;
And they did not ^(DH)rebel against His words.
²⁹He ^(DI)turned their waters into blood,
And caused their fish to die.
³⁰Their land swarmed with ^(DJ)frogs
Even in the ^(DK)chambers of their kings.
³¹He spoke, and a ^(DL)swarm of flies
And ^(DM)gnats invaded all their territory.
³²He ^[as]gave them ^(DN)hail for rain,
And flaming fire in their land.
³³He also ^(DO)struck their vines and their fig trees,
And smashed the trees of their territory.
³⁴He spoke, and ^(DP)locusts came,
And creeping locusts, beyond number,
³⁵And they ate all the vegetation in their land,
And ate the fruit of their ground.
³⁶He also ^(DQ)fatally struck all the firstborn in their land,
The ^(DR)first fruits of all their vigor.

³⁷Then He brought ^[at]the Israelites out with ^(DS)silver and gold,
And among His tribes there was not one who stumbled.
³⁸Egypt was ^(DT)glad when they departed,
For the ^(DU)dread of them had fallen upon ^[au]the Egyptians.
³⁹He spread out a ^(DV)cloud as a ^[av]covering,
And ^(DW)fire to illumine by night.
⁴⁰^[aw]They ^(DX)asked, and He brought ^(DY)quail,
And satisfied them with the ^[ax]^(DZ)bread of heaven.
⁴¹He opened the ^[ay]rock and ^(EA)water flowed out;
^[az]It ran in the dry places like a river.
⁴²For He ^(EB)remembered His holy word
With His servant Abraham;
⁴³And He led out His people with joy,
His chosen ones with a joyful ^(EC)shout.
⁴⁴He also ^(ED)gave them the lands of the ^[ba]nations,
So that they ^(EE)might take possession of the fruit of the peoples’ labor,
⁴⁵And that they might ^(EF)keep His statutes
And comply with His laws;
^[bb]Praise ^[bc]the Lord!
