Psalm 102

Do Not Hide Your Face from Me
A Prayer of one afflicted, when he is (A)faint and (B)pours out his complaint before the Lord.
102 (C)Hear my prayer, O Lord;
let my cry (D)come to you!
2 (E)Do not hide your face from me
in (F)the day of my distress!
(G)Incline your ear to me;
(H)answer me speedily (I)in the day when I call!
3 For my days (J)pass away like smoke,
and my (K)bones burn like a furnace.
4 My heart is (L)struck down like grass and (M)has withered;
I (N)forget to eat my bread.
5 Because of my loud groaning
my (O)bones cling to my flesh.
6 I am like (P)a desert owl of the wilderness,
like an owl[a] of the waste places;
7 I (Q)lie awake;
I am like a lonely sparrow on the housetop.
8 All the day my enemies taunt me;
those who (R)deride me (S)use my name for a curse.
9 For I eat ashes like bread
and (T)mingle tears with my drink,
10 because of your indignation and anger;
for you have (U)taken me up and (V)thrown me down.
11 My days are like (W)an evening shadow;
I (X)wither away like grass.
12 But you, O Lord, are (Y)enthroned forever;
you (Z)are remembered throughout all generations.
13 You will (AA)arise and have (AB)pity on Zion;
it is the time to favor her;
(AC)the appointed time has come.
14 For your servants hold her (AD)stones dear
and have pity on her dust.
15 Nations will (AE)fear the name of the Lord,
and all (AF)the kings of the earth will fear your glory.
16 For the Lord (AG)builds up Zion;
he (AH)appears in his glory;
17 he (AI)regards the prayer of the destitute
and does not despise their prayer.
18 Let this be (AJ)recorded for (AK)a generation to come,
so that (AL)a people yet to be created may praise the Lord:
19 that he (AM)looked down from his holy height;
from heaven the Lord looked at the earth,
20 to hear (AN)the groans of the prisoners,
to set free (AO)those who were doomed to die,
21 that they may (AP)declare in Zion the name of the Lord,
and in Jerusalem his praise,
22 when (AQ)peoples gather together,
and kingdoms, to worship the Lord.
23 He has broken my strength in midcourse;
he (AR)has shortened my days.
24 “O my God,” (AS)I say, “take me not away
in the midst of my days—
(AT)you whose years endure
throughout all generations!”
25 (AU)Of old you laid the foundation of the earth,
and (AV)the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 (AW)They will perish, but (AX)you will remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away,
27 but (AY)you are the same, and your years have no end.
28 (AZ)The children of your servants (BA)shall dwell secure;
(BB)their offspring shall be established before you.

Herr, erbarme dich über Jerusalem!
102 Gebet eines Menschen, der allen Mut verloren hat und dem Herrn sein Leid klagt.
2 Höre mein Gebet, Herr,
und achte auf meinen Hilfeschrei!
3 Ich bin in großer Not – verbirg dich nicht vor mir!
Höre mir zu und hilf mir schnell!
4 Mein Leben verflüchtigt sich wie Rauch,
mein ganzer Körper glüht, von Fieber geschüttelt.
5 Meine Kraft vertrocknet wie abgemähtes Gras,
selbst der Hunger ist mir vergangen.
6 Ich bin nur noch Haut und Knochen,
mir bleibt nichts als endloses Stöhnen.
7 Man hört mich klagen wie eine Eule in der Wüste,
wie ein Käuzchen in verlassenen Ruinen.
8 Tiefe Verzweiflung raubt mir den Schlaf;
ich fühle mich wie ein einsamer Vogel auf dem Dach.
9 Tag für Tag beschimpfen mich meine Feinde,
und wen sie verfluchen wollen,
dem wünschen sie mein Schicksal herbei.
10 Ich esse Staub, als wäre es Brot,
und in meine Getränke mischen sich Tränen.
11 Denn dein furchtbarer Zorn hat mich getroffen,
du hast mich hochgeworfen und zu Boden geschmettert!
12 Mein Leben gleicht einem Schatten,
der am Abend in der Dunkelheit verschwindet.
Ich bin wie Gras, das bald verdorrt.
13 Du aber, Herr, regierst für alle Zeiten;
von dir wird man erzählen, solange es Menschen gibt.
14 Du wirst eingreifen und dich über Zion erbarmen.
Denn die Zeit ist gekommen, es zu begnadigen – die Stunde ist da!
15 Dein Volk liebt die Mauern dieser Stadt
und trauert über ihre Trümmer.
16-17 Aber der Herr wird sie wieder aufbauen,
er wird erscheinen in all seiner Pracht.
Dann werden die Völker ihn fürchten
und alle Könige vor seiner Macht zittern.
18 Ja, der Herr wird das Gebet der Hilflosen hören,
er lässt ihr Flehen nicht außer Acht.
19 Diese Worte soll man aufschreiben
für die Generationen, die nach uns kommen,
damit auch sie es lesen und den Herrn loben:
20 Der Herr blickte von seinem Heiligtum herab,
er schaute vom Himmel auf die Erde.
21 Er hörte das Stöhnen der Gefangenen
und rettete sie vor dem sicheren Tod.
22 Darum wird man den Herrn auf dem Berg Zion rühmen;
in ganz Jerusalem wird man ihn loben,
23 wenn alle Völker und Königreiche sich versammeln,
um sich in seinen Dienst zu stellen.
24 Mitten im Leben[a] hat Gott meine Kraft gebrochen,
ich weiß, meine Tage sind schon gezählt.
25 Darum flehe ich ihn an:
Mein Gott, lass mich nicht jetzt schon sterben!
Du selbst überdauerst die Generationen.
26 Vor langer Zeit hast du alles geschaffen,
Himmel und Erde sind das Werk deiner Hände.
27 Sie werden vergehen, du aber bleibst.
Wie alte Kleider werden sie zerfallen,
wie ein abgetragenes Gewand legst du sie ab und wechselst sie aus.
28 Du aber bleibst ein und derselbe,
deine Jahre haben kein Ende.
29 Die Nachkommen deines Volkes werden in Sicherheit wohnen,
unter deinem Schutz werden sie geborgen sein.

2 Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.
3 For my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned as an hearth.
4 My heart is smitten, and withered like grass; so that I forget to eat my bread.
5 By reason of the voice of my groaning my bones cleave to my skin.
6 I am like a pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the desert.
7 I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top.
8 Mine enemies reproach me all the day; and they that are mad against me are sworn against me.
9 For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping.
10 Because of thine indignation and thy wrath: for thou hast lifted me up, and cast me down.
11 My days are like a shadow that declineth; and I am withered like grass.
12 But thou, O Lord, shall endure for ever; and thy remembrance unto all generations.
13 Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.
14 For thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and favour the dust thereof.
15 So the heathen shall fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth thy glory.
16 When the Lord shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory.
17 He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer.
18 This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the Lord.
19 For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the Lord behold the earth;
20 To hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death;
21 To declare the name of the Lord in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem;
22 When the people are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.
23 He weakened my strength in the way; he shortened my days.
24 I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout all generations.
25 Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.
26 They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:
27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.
28 The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee.
