⁹     they lurk in secret like a lion in its den;
they lurk that they may seize the poor;
    they seize the poor and drag them off in their net.^(A)

¹² They are like a lion eager to tear,
    like a young lion lurking in ambush.^(A)

² The faithful have disappeared from the land,
    and there is no one left who is upright;
they all lie in wait for blood,
    and they hunt each other with nets.^(A)

¹⁰ All my bones shall say,
    “O Lord, who is like you?
You deliver the weak
    from those too strong for them,
    the weak and needy from those who despoil them.”^(A)

³ Listen, the wail of the shepherds,
    for their glory is despoiled!
Listen, the roar of the lions,
    for the thickets of the Jordan are destroyed!^(A)

¹⁴ You pierced with their^[a] own arrows the head of his warriors,^[b]
    who came like a whirlwind to scatter us,^[c]
    gloating as if ready to devour the poor who were in hiding.

¹¹ What became of the lions’ den,
    the cave of the young lions,
where the lion goes,
    and the lion’s cubs, with no one to disturb them?^(A)
12 The lion has torn enough for his whelps
    and strangled prey for his lionesses;
he has filled his caves with prey
    and his dens with torn flesh.^(B)
