14 But you, God, see the trouble(A) of the afflicted;
    you consider their grief and take it in hand.
The victims commit themselves to you;(B)
    you are the helper(C) of the fatherless.
15 Break the arm of the wicked man;(D)
    call the evildoer to account for his wickedness
    that would not otherwise be found out.

16 The Lord is King for ever and ever;(E)
    the nations(F) will perish from his land.
17 You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted;(G)
    you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,(H)
18 defending the fatherless(I) and the oppressed,(J)
    so that mere earthly mortals
    will never again strike terror.

The helpless put their trust in you.
    You defend the orphans.

15 Break the arms of these wicked, evil people!
    Go after them until the last one is destroyed.
16 The Lord is king forever and ever!
    The godless nations will vanish from the land.
17 Lord, you know the hopes of the helpless.
    Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.
18 You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed,
    so mere people can no longer terrify them.
