(Psalm 1–41)
Wahres Glück
1 Glücklich ist, wer nicht dem Rat gottloser Menschen folgt,
wer nicht mit Sündern auf einer Seite steht,
wer nicht mit solchen Leuten zusammensitzt,
die über alles Heilige herziehen,
2 sondern wer Freude hat am Gesetz des Herrn
und darüber nachdenkt – Tag und Nacht.
3 Er ist wie ein Baum, der nah am Wasser gepflanzt ist,
der Frucht trägt Jahr für Jahr und dessen Blätter nie verwelken.
Was er sich vornimmt, das gelingt.
4 Ganz anders ergeht es allen, denen Gott gleichgültig ist:
Sie sind wie Spreu, die der Wind verweht.
5 Vor Gottes Gericht können sie nicht bestehen.
Weil sie seine Gebote missachtet haben,
sind sie aus seiner Gemeinde ausgeschlossen.
6 Der Herr wacht über den Weg aller Menschen,
die nach seinem Wort leben.
Doch wer sich ihm trotzig verschließt,
der läuft in sein Verderben.

Two Ways to Live
1 Happy is the person who doesn’t listen to the wicked.
He doesn’t go where sinners go.
He doesn’t do what bad people do.
2 He loves the Lord’s teachings.
He thinks about those teachings day and night.
3 He is strong, like a tree planted by a river.
It produces fruit in season.
Its leaves don’t die.
Everything he does will succeed.
4 But wicked people are not like that.
They are like useless chaff
that the wind blows away.
5 So the wicked will not escape God’s punishment.
Sinners will not worship God with good people.
6 This is because the Lord protects good people.
But the wicked will be destroyed.

1 Blessed is the one(A)
who does not walk(B) in step with the wicked(C)
or stand in the way(D) that sinners take(E)
or sit(F) in the company of mockers,(G)
2 but whose delight(H) is in the law of the Lord,(I)
and who meditates(J) on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree(K) planted by streams(L) of water,(M)
which yields its fruit(N) in season
and whose leaf(O) does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.(P)
