(Psalm 1–41)

Wahres Glück

1 Glücklich ist, wer nicht dem Rat gottloser Menschen folgt,
wer nicht mit Sündern auf einer Seite steht,
    wer nicht mit solchen Leuten zusammensitzt,
    die über alles Heilige herziehen,
²sondern wer Freude hat am Gesetz des Herrn
    und darüber nachdenkt – Tag und Nacht.
³Er ist wie ein Baum, der nah am Wasser gepflanzt ist,
der Frucht trägt Jahr für Jahr und dessen Blätter nie verwelken.
    Was er sich vornimmt, das gelingt.

⁴Ganz anders ergeht es allen, denen Gott gleichgültig ist:
    Sie sind wie Spreu, die der Wind verweht.
⁵Vor Gottes Gericht können sie nicht bestehen.
    Weil sie seine Gebote missachtet haben,
    sind sie aus seiner Gemeinde ausgeschlossen.
⁶Der Herr wacht über den Weg aller Menschen,
die nach seinem Wort leben.
    Doch wer sich ihm trotzig verschließt,
    der läuft in sein Verderben.

The Way of the Righteous and the Wicked

1 Blessed is the man^[a]
    who ^(A)walks not in ^(B)the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in ^(C)the way of sinners,
    nor ^(D)sits in ^(E)the seat of ^(F)scoffers;
²but his ^(G)delight is in the law^[b] of the Lord,
    and on his ^(H)law he meditates day and night.

³He is like ^(I)a tree
    planted by ^(J)streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
    and its ^(K)leaf does not wither.
^(L)In all that he does, he prospers.
⁴The wicked are not so,
    but are like ^(M)chaff that the wind drives away.

⁵Therefore the wicked ^(N)will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in ^(O)the congregation of the righteous;
⁶for the Lord ^(P)knows ^(Q)the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

The Two Ways

¹Happy are those
    who do not follow the advice of the wicked,
or take the path that sinners tread,
    or sit in the seat of scoffers;
²but their delight is in the law of the Lord,
    and on his law they meditate day and night.
³They are like trees
    planted by streams of water,
which yield their fruit in its season,
    and their leaves do not wither.
In all that they do, they prosper.

⁴The wicked are not so,
    but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
⁵Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement,
    nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
⁶for the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
    but the way of the wicked will perish.
