18 For our (A)shield belongs to the Lord,
[a]And our king to the (B)Holy One of Israel.

19 [b]Once You spoke in vision to Your godly [c]ones,
And said, “I have [d]given help to one who is (C)mighty;
I have exalted one (D)chosen from the people.
20 I have (E)found My servant David;
With My holy (F)oil I have anointed him,
21 With whom (G)My hand will be established;
My arm also will (H)strengthen him.
22 The enemy will not [e]deceive him,
Nor will the [f](I)son of wickedness afflict him.
23 But I will (J)crush his adversaries before him,
And strike those who hate him.
24 My (K)faithfulness and My favor will be with him,
And in My name his (L)horn will be exalted.
25 I will also place his hand (M)on the sea,
And his right hand on the rivers.
26 He will call to Me, ‘You are (N)my Father,
My God, and the (O)rock of my salvation.’
27 I will also make him My (P)firstborn,
The (Q)highest of the kings of the earth.
28 I will maintain My (R)favor for him forever,
And My (S)covenant shall be confirmed to him.
29 So I will establish his [g](T)descendants forever,
And his (U)throne (V)as the days of heaven.

30 “If his sons (W)abandon My Law
And do not walk in My judgments,
31 If they [h]violate My statutes
And do not keep My commandments,
32 Then I will punish their wrongdoing with the (X)rod,
And their guilt with [i]afflictions.
33 But I will not [j]withhold (Y)My favor from him,
Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness.
34 I will not [k]violate My (Z)covenant,
Nor will I (AA)alter [l]the utterance of My lips.
35 [m]Once I have (AB)sworn by My holiness;
I will not lie to David.
36 His [n](AC)descendants shall endure forever,
And his (AD)throne (AE)as the sun before Me.
37 It shall be established forever (AF)like the moon,
And a (AG)witness in the sky is faithful.” Selah

38 But You have (AH)rejected and (AI)refused,
You have been full of wrath [o]against Your (AJ)anointed.
39 You have [p](AK)repudiated the covenant of Your servant;
You have (AL)profaned (AM)his crown [q]in the dust.
40 You have (AN)broken down all his walls;
You have (AO)brought his strongholds to ruin.

18 Indeed, our shield[a](A) belongs to the Lord,
    our king(B) to the Holy One of Israel.

19 Once you spoke in a vision,
    to your faithful people you said:
“I have bestowed strength on a warrior;
    I have raised up a young man from among the people.
20 I have found David(C) my servant;(D)
    with my sacred oil(E) I have anointed(F) him.
21 My hand will sustain him;
    surely my arm will strengthen him.(G)
22 The enemy will not get the better of him;(H)
    the wicked will not oppress(I) him.
23 I will crush his foes before him(J)
    and strike down his adversaries.(K)
24 My faithful love will be with him,(L)
    and through my name his horn[b] will be exalted.
25 I will set his hand over the sea,
    his right hand over the rivers.(M)
26 He will call out to me, ‘You are my Father,(N)
    my God, the Rock(O) my Savior.’(P)
27 And I will appoint him to be my firstborn,(Q)
    the most exalted(R) of the kings(S) of the earth.
28 I will maintain my love to him forever,
    and my covenant with him will never fail.(T)
29 I will establish his line forever,
    his throne as long as the heavens endure.(U)

30 “If his sons forsake my law
    and do not follow my statutes,
31 if they violate my decrees
    and fail to keep my commands,
32 I will punish their sin with the rod,
    their iniquity with flogging;(V)
33 but I will not take my love from him,(W)
    nor will I ever betray my faithfulness.
34 I will not violate my covenant
    or alter what my lips have uttered.(X)
35 Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness—
    and I will not lie to David—
36 that his line will continue forever
    and his throne endure before me like the sun;(Y)
37 it will be established forever like the moon,
    the faithful witness in the sky.”(Z)

38 But you have rejected,(AA) you have spurned,
    you have been very angry with your anointed one.
39 You have renounced the covenant with your servant
    and have defiled his crown in the dust.(AB)
40 You have broken through all his walls(AC)
    and reduced his strongholds(AD) to ruins.
