The Victorious Power of the God of Jacob.

For the music director; on stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph, a Song.

76 God is (A)known in Judah;
His name is (B)great in Israel.
His [a](C)tabernacle is in (D)Salem;
His (E)dwelling place also is in Zion.
There He (F)broke the [b]flaming arrows,
The shield, the sword, and the [c]weapons of war. Selah

You are resplendent,
[d]More majestic than the mountains of prey.
The (G)stouthearted were plundered,
[e]They sank into sleep;
And none of the [f]warriors could use his hands.
At Your (H)rebuke, God of Jacob,
Both [g](I)rider and horse were cast into a dead sleep.
You, You indeed are (J)to be feared,
And (K)who may stand in Your presence, [h]once You are angry?

You caused judgment to be heard from heaven;
The earth (L)feared and was still
When God (M)arose to judgment,
To save all the humble of the earth. Selah
10 For the [i](N)wrath of mankind shall praise You;
You will encircle Yourself with a remnant of wrath.

11 (O)Make vows to the Lord your God and (P)fulfill them;
All who are around Him are to (Q)bring gifts to Him who is to be feared.
12 He will cut off the spirit of princes;
He is [j](R)feared by the kings of the earth.

The Awesome God

76 God is known in Judah;
    in Israel his reputation is great.
His abode is in Salem,[a]
    his dwelling place in Zion.
There he shattered sharp arrows,
    shields, swords, and weapons of[b] war.
Interlude

You are enveloped by light;
    more majestic than mountains filled with game.
Brave men were plundered
    while they slumbered in their sleep.
        All the men of the army were immobilized.
At the sound of your battle cry, God of Jacob,
    both horse and chariot rider fell into deep sleep.
You are awesome!
    who can stand in your presence when you’re angry?
From heaven you declared judgment.
    The earth stands in awe and is quiet
when God arose to execute justice
    and to deliver all the afflicted of the earth.
Interlude
10 Even human anger praises you;
    you will wear the survivors of your wrath as an ornament.[c]

11 Let everyone who surrounds the Lord your God
    make a vow and fulfill it to the Awesome One.[d]
12 He will humble the arrogant[e] commanders-in-chief,[f]
    instilling fear among the kings of the earth.
