Lift up Your steps toward the (A)perpetual ruins;
The enemy (B)has damaged everything within the sanctuary.
Your adversaries have (C)roared in the midst of Your meeting place;
They have set up their (D)own signs (E)for signs.
Each seems like one who lifts up
[a]An (F)axe against the undergrowth of trees.
And now its (G)carved work altogether
They smash with hatchet and [b]hammers.
They have (H)set Your sanctuary on fire;
By bringing it to the ground, they have (I)defiled the dwelling place of Your name.
They (J)said in their heart, “Let us [c]completely [d]subdue them.”
They have burned all the meeting places of God in the land.

There is (L)no longer any prophet,
Nor is there any among us who knows (M)how long.

They have (D)laid Jerusalem in ruins.
They have given the (E)dead bodies of Your slaves for food to the birds of the heavens,
The flesh of Your holy ones to the beasts of the earth.
They have poured out their blood like water round about Jerusalem;
And there was (F)no one to bury them.
We have become a (G)reproach to our neighbors,
A mockery and derision to those around us.

You have become (A)guilty by [a]the blood which you have shed, and defiled by your idols which you have made. Thus you have brought your [b]day near and have come to your years; therefore I have made you a (B)reproach to the nations and a mocking to all the lands.
