Then Jacob left Beersheba,(K) and Israel’s(L) sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the carts(M) that Pharaoh had sent to transport him. 28 Now Jacob sent Judah(BO) ahead of him to Joseph to get directions to Goshen.(BP) When they arrived in the region of Goshen, 29 Joseph had his chariot(BQ) made ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel.(BR) As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father[h] and wept(BS) for a long time.(BT)

30 Israel(BU) said to Joseph, “Now I am ready to die, since I have seen for myself that you are still alive.”(BV)

31 Then Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “I will go up and speak to Pharaoh and will say to him, ‘My brothers and my father’s household, who were living in the land of Canaan,(BW) have come to me.(BX) 32 The men are shepherds;(BY) they tend livestock,(BZ) and they have brought along their flocks and herds and everything they own.’(CA) 33 When Pharaoh calls you in and asks, ‘What is your occupation?’(CB) 34 you should answer, ‘Your servants(CC) have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.’(CD) Then you will be allowed to settle(CE) in the region of Goshen,(CF) for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians.(CG)

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you, and the land of Egypt is before you; settle(CR) your father and your brothers in the best part of the land.(CS) Let them live in Goshen. And if you know of any among them with special ability,(CT) put them in charge of my own livestock.(CU)

Then Joseph brought his father Jacob in and presented him(CV) before Pharaoh. After Jacob blessed[i] Pharaoh,(CW) Pharaoh asked him, “How old are you?”

And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty.(CX) My years have been few and difficult,(CY) and they do not equal the years of the pilgrimage of my fathers.(CZ) 10 Then Jacob blessed[j] Pharaoh(DA) and went out from his presence.

11 So Joseph settled his father and his brothers in Egypt and gave them property in the best part of the land,(DB) the district of Rameses,(DC) as Pharaoh directed. 12 Joseph also provided his father and his brothers and all his father’s household with food, according to the number of their children.(DD)

The Parable of the Mustard Seed(A)

30 Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like,(B) or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. 32 Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”

33 With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand.(C) 34 He did not say anything to them without using a parable.(D) But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.
