Lead Me to the Rock

To the choirmaster: with ^(A)stringed instruments. Of David.

61 Hear my cry, O God,
    ^(B)listen to my prayer;
²from the end of the earth I call to you
    when my heart is ^(C)faint.
Lead me to ^(D)the rock
    that is higher than I,
³for you have been ^(E)my refuge,
    a strong ^(F)tower against the enemy.

⁴Let me ^(G)dwell in your tent forever!
Let me take refuge under ^(H)the shelter of your wings! Selah
⁵For you, O God, have heard my vows;
you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.

⁶^(I)Prolong ^(J)the life of the king;
may his years endure to all generations!
⁷May he be enthroned forever before God;
appoint ^(K)steadfast love and faithfulness to watch over him!

⁸So will I ever sing praises to your name,
as I ^(L)perform my vows day after day.

My Soul Waits for God Alone

62 For God alone ^(N)my soul ^(O)waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.
²^(P)He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my ^(Q)fortress; ^(R)I shall not be greatly shaken.

³How long will all of you attack a man
    to batter him,
    like ^(S)a leaning wall, a tottering fence?
⁴They only plan to thrust him down from his ^(T)high position.
    They take pleasure in falsehood.
^(U)They bless with their mouths,
    but inwardly they curse. Selah

⁵For God alone, O ^(V)my soul, wait in silence,
    for my hope is from him.
⁶^(W)He only is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
⁷On God rests my ^(X)salvation and my glory;
    my mighty rock, ^(Y)my refuge is God.

⁸^(Z)Trust in him at all times, O people;
^(AA)pour out your heart before him;
God is ^(AB)a refuge for us. Selah

⁹^(AC)Those of low estate are but a breath;
    those of high estate ^(AD)are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
    ^(AE)they are together lighter than a breath.
¹⁰Put no trust in extortion;
    ^(AF)set no vain hopes on robbery;
    ^(AG)if riches increase, set not your heart on them.

¹¹^(AH)Once God has spoken;
    ^(AI)twice have I heard this:
that ^(AJ)power belongs to God,
¹²    and that to you, O Lord, ^(AK)belongs steadfast love.
For you will ^(AL)render to a man
    according to his work.

Israel Forsakes the Lord

2 The word of the Lord came to me, saying, ²“Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem, Thus says the Lord,

“I remember the devotion of ^(A)your youth,
    your love ^(B)as a bride,
^(C)how you followed me in the wilderness,
    ^(D)in a land not sown.
³^(E)Israel was holy to the Lord,
    ^(F)the firstfruits of his harvest.
^(G)All who ate of it incurred guilt;
    disaster came upon them,
declares the Lord.”

⁴Hear the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob, and all the clans of the house of Israel. ⁵Thus says the Lord:

^(H)“What wrong did your fathers find in me
    that they went far from me,
^(I)and went after ^(J)worthlessness, and became worthless?
⁶They did not say, ^(K)‘Where is the Lord
    who brought us up from the land of Egypt,
who led us ^(L)in the wilderness,
    in a land of deserts and pits,
in a land of drought and deep darkness,
    in a land that none passes through,
    where no man dwells?’
⁷^(M)And I brought you into a plentiful land
    to enjoy its fruits and its good things.
But when you came in, ^(N)you defiled my land
    and made my heritage an abomination.
⁸The priests did not say, ‘Where is the Lord?’
    ^(O)Those who handle the law did not know me;
^(P)the shepherds^[a] transgressed against me;
    ^(Q)the prophets prophesied by Baal
    and went after ^(R)things that do not profit.

⁹“Therefore ^(S)I still contend with you,
declares the Lord,
    and ^(T)with your children's children I will contend.
¹⁰For cross to the coasts of ^(U)Cyprus and see,
    or send to ^(V)Kedar and examine with care;
    see if there has been such a thing.
¹¹^(W)Has a nation changed its gods,
    ^(X)even though they are no gods?
But my people ^(Y)have changed their glory
    for ^(Z)that which does not profit.
¹²Be appalled, ^(AA)O heavens, at this;
    be shocked, be utterly desolate,
declares the Lord,
¹³for my people have committed two evils:
^(AB)they have forsaken ^(AC)me,
    the fountain of ^(AD)living waters,
and hewed out cisterns for themselves,
    broken cisterns that can hold no water.

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

¹⁶For ^(A)I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is ^(B)the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew ^(C)first and also to ^(D)the Greek. ¹⁷For in it ^(E)the righteousness of God is revealed ^(F)from faith for faith,^[a] ^(G)as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”^[b]

God's Wrath on Unrighteousness

¹⁸For ^(H)the wrath of God ^(I)is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. ¹⁹For what can be ^(J)known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. ²⁰For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, ^(K)have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,^[c] in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. ²¹For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they ^(L)became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. ²²^(M)Claiming to be wise, they became fools, ²³and ^(N)exchanged the glory of ^(O)the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

²⁴Therefore ^(P)God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to ^(Q)the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, ²⁵because they exchanged the truth about God for ^(R)a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, ^(S)who is blessed forever! Amen.

John 4:43-54

⁴³After ^(A)the two days he departed for Galilee. ⁴⁴(For Jesus himself had testified ^(B)that a prophet has no honor in his own hometown.) ⁴⁵So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, ^(C)having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the feast. For ^(D)they too had gone to the feast.

Jesus Heals an Official's Son

⁴⁶So he came again to ^(E)Cana in Galilee, ^(F)where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill. ⁴⁷When this man heard that Jesus ^(G)had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. ⁴⁸So Jesus said to him, ^(H)“Unless you^[a] see signs and wonders you will not believe.” ⁴⁹The official said to him, “Sir, come down ^(I)before my child dies.” ⁵⁰Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way. ⁵¹As he was going down, his servants^[b] met him and told him that his son was recovering. ⁵²So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour^[c] the fever left him.” ⁵³The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” And he himself believed, ^(J)and all his household. ⁵⁴^(K)This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee.
