Psalm 59:2-9

I

2 Rescue me from my enemies, my God;
    lift me out of reach of my foes.
3 Deliver me from evildoers;
    from the bloodthirsty save me.
4 They have set an ambush for my life;
    the powerful conspire against me.
For no offense or misdeed of mine, Lord,
5     for no fault they hurry to take up arms.
Come near and see my plight!
6     You, Lord God of hosts, are the God of Israel!
Awake! Punish all the nations.
    Have no mercy on these worthless traitors.
Selah
7 Each evening they return,
    growling like dogs, prowling the city.(A)
8 Their mouths pour out insult;
    sharp words are on their lips.
    They say: “Who is there to hear?”[a]
9 But you, Lord, laugh at them;
    you deride all the nations.(B)

2 Deliver me from evildoers(A)
    and save me from those who are after my blood.(B)

3 See how they lie in wait for me!
    Fierce men conspire(C) against me
    for no offense or sin of mine, Lord.
4 I have done no wrong,(D) yet they are ready to attack me.(E)
    Arise to help me; look on my plight!(F)
5 You, Lord God Almighty,
    you who are the God of Israel,(G)
rouse yourself(H) to punish all the nations;(I)
    show no mercy to wicked traitors.[a](J)

6 They return at evening,
    snarling like dogs,(K)
    and prowl about the city.
7 See what they spew from their mouths(L)—
    the words from their lips are sharp as swords,(M)
    and they think, “Who can hear us?”(N)
8 But you laugh at them, Lord;(O)
    you scoff at all those nations.(P)

9 You are my strength,(Q) I watch for you;
    you, God, are my fortress,(R)
