15 All day long I feel humiliated[a]
and am overwhelmed with shame,[b]
16 before the vindictive enemy
who ridicules and insults me.[c]
17 All this has happened to us, even though we have not rejected you[d]
or violated your covenant with us.[e]

and my face is covered with shame(B)
16 at the taunts(C) of those who reproach and revile(D) me,
because of the enemy, who is bent on revenge.(E)
17 All this came upon us,

we had not been false to your covenant.
