⁶ “I have installed my king^(A)
    on Zion,^(B) my holy mountain.^(C)”

He said to me, “You are my son;^(D)
    today I have become your father.^(E)
8 Ask me,
    and I will make the nations^(F) your inheritance,^(G)
    the ends of the earth^(H) your possession.
⁹ You will break them with a rod of iron^[a];^(I)
    you will dash them to pieces^(J) like pottery.^(K)”

¹⁰ because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,^(A)
    nor will you let your faithful^[a] one^(B) see decay.^(C)

³ Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One;^(F)
    you are the one Israel praises.^[c](G)
4 In you our ancestors put their trust;
    they trusted and you delivered them.^(H)
5 To you they cried out^(I) and were saved;
    in you they trusted^(J) and were not put to shame.^(K)

⁶ But I am a worm^(L) and not a man,
    scorned by everyone,^(M) despised^(N) by the people.
⁷ All who see me mock me;^(O)
    they hurl insults,^(P) shaking their heads.^(Q)
8 “He trusts in the Lord,” they say,
    “let the Lord rescue him.^(R)
Let him deliver him,^(S)
    since he delights^(T) in him.”

⁹ Yet you brought me out of the womb;^(U)
    you made me trust^(V) in you, even at my mother’s breast.
¹⁰ From birth^(W) I was cast on you;
    from my mother’s womb you have been my God.

¹¹ Do not be far from me,^(X)
    for trouble is near^(Y)
    and there is no one to help.^(Z)

¹² Many bulls^(AA) surround me;^(AB)
    strong bulls of Bashan^(AC) encircle me.
¹³ Roaring lions^(AD) that tear their prey^(AE)
    open their mouths wide^(AF) against me.
¹⁴ I am poured out like water,
    and all my bones are out of joint.^(AG)
My heart has turned to wax;^(AH)
    it has melted^(AI) within me.
¹⁵ My mouth^[d] is dried up like a potsherd,^(AJ)
    and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;^(AK)
    you lay me in the dust^(AL) of death.

¹⁶ Dogs^(AM) surround me,
    a pack of villains encircles me;
    they pierce^[e](AN) my hands and my feet.
¹⁷ All my bones are on display;
    people stare^(AO) and gloat over me.^(AP)
18 They divide my clothes among them
    and cast lots^(AQ) for my garment.^(AR)

²⁰ he protects all his bones,
    not one of them will be broken.^(A)

⁹ Even my close friend,^(A)
    someone I trusted,
one who shared my bread,
    has turned^[a] against me.^(B)

⁵ You, God, know my folly;^(J)
    my guilt is not hidden from you.^(K)

⁶ Lord, the Lord Almighty,
    may those who hope in you
    not be disgraced because of me;
God of Israel,
    may those who seek you
    not be put to shame because of me.
⁷ For I endure scorn^(L) for your sake,^(M)
    and shame covers my face.^(N)
8 I am a foreigner to my own family,
    a stranger to my own mother’s children;^(O)
9 for zeal for your house consumes me,^(P)
    and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.^(Q)

²⁰ Scorn has broken my heart
    and has left me helpless;
I looked for sympathy, but there was none,
    for comforters,^(A) but I found none.^(B)
21 They put gall in my food
    and gave me vinegar^(C) for my thirst.^(D)

²⁶ For they persecute those you wound
    and talk about the pain of those you hurt.^(A)

“Sit at my right hand^(B)
    until I make your enemies
    a footstool for your feet.”^(C)

² The Lord will extend your mighty scepter^(D) from Zion,^(E) saying,
    “Rule^(F) in the midst of your enemies!”
³ Your troops will be willing
    on your day of battle.
Arrayed in holy splendor,^(G)
    your young men will come to you
    like dew from the morning’s womb.^[b](H)

⁴ The Lord has sworn
    and will not change his mind:^(I)
“You are a priest forever,^(J)
    in the order of Melchizedek.^(K)”
