17 He hath delivered me from my [a]strong enemy, and from them which hate me: for they were [b]too strong for me.
18 They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.
19 He brought me forth also into a large place: [c]he delivered me because he favored me.
20 The Lord rewarded me according to my [d]righteousness: according to the pureness of mine hand he recompensed me:
21 Because I kept the ways of the Lord, and did not wickedly against my God.
22 For all his laws were before me, and I did not cast away his [e]commandments from me.
23 I was upright also with him, and have kept me from my [f]wickedness.
24 Therefore the Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness, and according to the pureness of mine hands in his sight.
25 With the [g]godly thou wilt show thyself godly: with the upright man thou wilt show thyself upright.
26 With the pure thou wilt show thyself pure, and with the froward thou wilt show thyself froward.
27 Thus thou wilt save the poor people, and wilt [h]cast down to proud looks.
28 Surely thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will lighten my darkness.
29 For by thee I have [i]broken through an host, and by my God I have leaped over a wall.
30 The way of God is uncorrupt: the [j]word of the Lord is tried in the fire: he is a shield to all that trust in him.
31 For who is God besides the Lord? and who is mighty save our God?
32 God girdeth me with strength, and maketh my [k]way upright.
33 He maketh my feet like hind’s feet, and setteth me upon mine [l]high places.
34 He teacheth mine hands to fight: so that a bow of [m]brass is broken with mine arms.
35 Thou hast also given me the [n]shield of thy salvation, and thy right hand hath stayed me, and thy [o]lovingkindness hath caused me to increase.
36 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, and my heels have not slid.
37 [p]I have pursued mine enemies, and taken them, and have not turned again till I had consumed them.
38 I have wounded them, that they were not able to rise, they are fallen under my feet.
39 For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose against me, thou hast subdued under me.
40 And thou hast [q]given me the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.
41 They [r]cried, but there was none to save them, even unto the Lord, but he answered them not.
42 Then I did beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did tread them flat as the clay in the streets.
43 Thou hast delivered me from the contentions of the people: thou hast made me the head of the [s]heathen, a people, whom I have not [t]known, shall serve me.
44 As soon as they hear they shall obey me: the strangers shall [u]be in subjection to me.
45 Strangers shall [v]shrink away, and fear in their pure chambers.
46 Let the Lord live, and blessed be my strength, and the God of my salvation be exalted.
47 It is God that giveth me power to avenge me, and subdued the people under me.
48 O my deliverer from mine enemies, even thou hast set me up from those that rose against me; thou hast delivered me from the [w]cruel man.
49 Therefore [x]I will praise thee, O Lord, among the nations, and will sing unto thy Name.
50 Great deliverances giveth he unto his king, and showeth mercy to his anointed, even to David, and to his [y]seed forever.

17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy,(A)
from my foes, who were too strong for me.(B)
18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster,(C)
but the Lord was my support.(D)
19 He brought me out into a spacious place;(E)
he rescued me because he delighted in me.(F)
20 The Lord has dealt with me according to my righteousness;(G)
according to the cleanness of my hands(H) he has rewarded me.(I)
21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord;(J)
I am not guilty of turning(K) from my God.
22 All his laws are before me;(L)
I have not turned away from his decrees.
23 I have been blameless(M) before him
and have kept myself from sin.
24 The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness,(N)
according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.
25 To the faithful(O) you show yourself faithful,(P)
to the blameless you show yourself blameless,
26 to the pure(Q) you show yourself pure,
but to the devious you show yourself shrewd.(R)
27 You save the humble(S)
but bring low those whose eyes are haughty.(T)
28 You, Lord, keep my lamp(U) burning;
my God turns my darkness into light.(V)
29 With your help(W) I can advance against a troop[a];
with my God I can scale a wall.
30 As for God, his way is perfect:(X)
The Lord’s word is flawless;(Y)
he shields(Z) all who take refuge(AA) in him.
31 For who is God besides the Lord?(AB)
And who is the Rock(AC) except our God?
32 It is God who arms me with strength(AD)
and keeps my way secure.(AE)
33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer;(AF)
he causes me to stand on the heights.(AG)
34 He trains my hands for battle;(AH)
my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
35 You make your saving help my shield,
and your right hand sustains(AI) me;
your help has made me great.
36 You provide a broad path(AJ) for my feet,
so that my ankles do not give way.(AK)
37 I pursued my enemies(AL) and overtook them;
I did not turn back till they were destroyed.
38 I crushed them(AM) so that they could not rise;(AN)
they fell beneath my feet.(AO)
39 You armed me with strength(AP) for battle;
you humbled my adversaries(AQ) before me.
40 You made my enemies turn their backs(AR) in flight,
and I destroyed(AS) my foes.
41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them(AT)—
to the Lord, but he did not answer.(AU)
42 I beat them as fine as windblown dust;(AV)
I trampled them[b] like mud in the streets.
43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people;
you have made me the head of nations.(AW)
People I did not know(AX) now serve me,
44 foreigners(AY) cower before me;
as soon as they hear of me, they obey me.
45 They all lose heart;(AZ)
they come trembling(BA) from their strongholds.(BB)
46 The Lord lives!(BC) Praise be to my Rock!(BD)
Exalted be God(BE) my Savior!(BF)
47 He is the God who avenges(BG) me,
who subdues nations(BH) under me,
48 who saves(BI) me from my enemies.(BJ)
You exalted me above my foes;
from a violent man(BK) you rescued me.
49 Therefore I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;(BL)
I will sing(BM) the praises of your name.(BN)
