When Brothers Dwell in Unity

A Song of ^(A)Ascents. Of David.

133 Behold, how good and pleasant it is
    when ^(B)brothers dwell in unity!^[a]
²It is like the precious ^(C)oil on ^(D)the head,
    running down on the beard,
on the beard of Aaron,
    running down on ^(E)the collar of his robes!
³It is like ^(F)the dew of ^(G)Hermon,
    which falls on ^(H)the mountains of Zion!
For there the Lord ^(I)has commanded the blessing,
    life forevermore.

134 Come, bless the Lord, all you ^(K)servants of the Lord,
who ^(L)stand ^(M)by night in the house of the Lord!
²^(N)Lift up your hands to ^(O)the holy place
and bless the Lord!

³May the Lord ^(P)bless you ^(Q)from Zion,
he who ^(R)made heaven and earth!

Your Name, O Lord, Endures Forever

135 ^(S)Praise the Lord!
Praise the name of the Lord,
    give praise, O ^(T)servants of the Lord,
²who ^(U)stand in the house of the Lord,
    in ^(V)the courts of the house of our God!
³Praise the Lord, for ^(W)the Lord is good;
    sing to his name, ^(X)for it is pleasant!^[b]
⁴For the Lord has ^(Y)chosen Jacob for himself,
    Israel as his ^(Z)own possession.

⁵For I know that ^(AA)the Lord is great,
    and that our Lord is above all gods.
⁶^(AB)Whatever the Lord pleases, he does,
    in heaven and on earth,
    in the seas and all deeps.
⁷^(AC)He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth,
    who ^(AD)makes lightnings for the rain
    and brings forth the wind from his ^(AE)storehouses.

⁸He it was who ^(AF)struck down the firstborn of Egypt,
    both of man and of beast;
⁹who in your midst, O Egypt,
    sent ^(AG)signs and wonders
    against Pharaoh and all his servants;
¹⁰^(AH)who struck down many nations
    and killed mighty kings,
¹¹^(AI)Sihon, king of the Amorites,
    and ^(AJ)Og, king of Bashan,
    and ^(AK)all the kingdoms of Canaan,
¹²and ^(AL)gave their land as a heritage,
    a heritage to his people Israel.

¹³^(AM)Your name, O Lord, endures forever,
^(AN)your renown,^[c] O Lord, throughout all ages.
¹⁴^(AO)For the Lord will vindicate his people
and ^(AP)have compassion on his servants.

¹⁵^(AQ)The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
    the work of human hands.
¹⁶They have mouths, but do not speak;
    they have eyes, but do not see;
¹⁷they have ears, but do not hear,
    nor is there any breath in their mouths.
¹⁸Those who make them become like them,
    so do all who trust in them.

¹⁹^(AR)O house of Israel, bless the Lord!
    O house of Aaron, bless the Lord!
²⁰O house of Levi, bless the Lord!
    You who fear the Lord, bless the Lord!
²¹Blessed be the Lord ^(AS)from Zion,
    he who ^(AT)dwells in Jerusalem!

Proclaiming Christ Crucified

2 And I, when I came to you, brothers,^[a] ^(A)did not come proclaiming to you ^(B)the testimony^[b] of God with lofty speech or wisdom. ²For I decided to know nothing among you except ^(C)Jesus Christ and him crucified. ³And ^(D)I was with you ^(E)in weakness and in fear and much trembling, ⁴and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of ^(F)the Spirit and of power, ⁵so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men^[c] but ^(G)in the power of God.

Wisdom from the Spirit

⁶Yet among ^(H)the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not ^(I)a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, ^(J)who are doomed to pass away. ⁷But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, ^(K)which God decreed before the ages for our glory. ⁸None of ^(L)the rulers of this age understood this, for ^(M)if they had, they would not have crucified ^(N)the Lord of glory. ⁹But, as it is written,

^(O)“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has ^(P)prepared ^(Q)for those who love him”—

¹⁰these things ^(R)God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even ^(S)the depths of God. ¹¹For who knows a person's thoughts ^(T)except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. ¹²Now ^(U)we have received not ^(V)the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. ¹³And we impart this ^(W)in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, ^(X)interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.^[d]

¹⁴The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are ^(Y)folly to him, and ^(Z)he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. ¹⁵The ^(AA)spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. ¹⁶^(AB)“For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But ^(AC)we have the mind of Christ.
