The Lord Surrounds His People

A Song of (A)Ascents.

125 Those who (B)trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which (C)cannot be moved, but abides forever.
As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so (D)the Lord surrounds his people,
from this time forth and forevermore.
For (E)the scepter of wickedness shall not (F)rest
on (G)the land allotted to the righteous,
lest the righteous (H)stretch out
    their hands to do wrong.
(I)Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,
and to those who are (J)upright in their hearts!
But those who (K)turn aside to their (L)crooked ways
the Lord will lead away with (M)evildoers!
    (N)Peace be upon Israel!

The Book of Remembrance

16 Then those who feared the Lord (A)spoke with one another. The Lord paid attention and heard them, and (B)a book of remembrance was written before him of those who feared the Lord and esteemed his name. 17 “They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, (C)in the day when I make up (D)my treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him. 18 Then once more you shall (E)see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.

The Great Day of the Lord

[a] “For behold, (F)the day is coming, (G)burning like an oven, when (H)all the arrogant and (I)all evildoers (J)will be stubble. The day that is coming (K)shall set them ablaze, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. But for you (L)who fear my name, (M)the sun (N)of righteousness shall rise (O)with healing in its wings. You shall go out (P)leaping like calves from the stall. And you shall tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet, (Q)on the day when I act, says the Lord of hosts.

(R)“Remember (S)the law of my servant Moses, the statutes and rules[b] that I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel.

(T)“Behold, I will send you (U)Elijah the prophet (V)before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. And he will (W)turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and (X)strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.”[c]

(A)And as they were coming down the mountain, (B)he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, (C)until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 (D)So they kept the matter to themselves, (E)questioning what this rising from the dead might mean. 11 And they asked him, “Why do the scribes say (F)that first Elijah must come?” 12 And he said to them, “Elijah does come first (G)to restore all things. And (H)how is it written of the Son of Man that he should (I)suffer many things and (J)be treated with contempt? 13 But I tell you that Elijah has come, and (K)they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.”
