Psalm 118:8-18

⁸^(A)It is better to take refuge in the Lord
^(B)than to trust in man.
⁹It is better to take refuge in the Lord
^(C)than to trust in princes.

¹⁰^(D)All nations surrounded me;
    in the name of the Lord I cut them off!
¹¹They surrounded me, surrounded me on every side;
    in the name of the Lord I cut them off!
¹²^(E)They surrounded me like bees;
    they went out like ^(F)a fire among thorns;
    in the name of the Lord I cut them off!
¹³I was ^(G)pushed hard,^[a] so that I was falling,
    but the Lord helped me.

¹⁴The Lord is my strength and my song;
    ^(H)he has become my salvation.
¹⁵Glad songs of salvation
    are in the tents of the righteous:
^(I)“The right hand of the Lord ^(J)does valiantly,
¹⁶    the right hand of the Lord exalts,
    the right hand of the Lord ^(K)does valiantly!”

¹⁷^(L)I shall not die, but I shall live,
and ^(M)recount the deeds of the Lord.
¹⁸The Lord has ^(N)disciplined me severely,
but he has not given me over to death.

¹²They swarmed around me like bees,^(G)
    but they were consumed as quickly as burning thorns;^(H)

¹³I was pushed back and about to fall,
    but the Lord helped me.^(J)
¹⁴The Lord is my strength^(K) and my defense^[a];
    he has become my salvation.^(L)

¹⁵Shouts of joy^(M) and victory
    resound in the tents of the righteous:
“The Lord’s right hand^(N) has done mighty things!^(O)
¹⁶    The Lord’s right hand is lifted high;
    the Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!”
¹⁷I will not die^(P) but live,
    and will proclaim^(Q) what the Lord has done.
¹⁸The Lord has chastened^(R) me severely,
    but he has not given me over to death.^(S)
