Psalm 110

Of David. A psalm.

¹The Lord says^(A) to my lord:^[a]

“Sit at my right hand^(B)
until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet.”^(C)

²The Lord will extend your mighty scepter^(D) from Zion,^(E) saying,
    “Rule^(F) in the midst of your enemies!”
³Your troops will be willing
    on your day of battle.
Arrayed in holy splendor,^(G)
    your young men will come to you
    like dew from the morning’s womb.^[b]^(H)

⁴The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind:^(I)
“You are a priest forever,^(J)
in the order of Melchizedek.^(K)”

⁵The Lord is at your right hand^[c];^(L)
    he will crush kings^(M) on the day of his wrath.^(N)
⁶He will judge the nations,^(O) heaping up the dead^(P)
    and crushing the rulers^(Q) of the whole earth.
⁷He will drink from a brook along the way,^[d]
    and so he will lift his head high.^(R)

Wisdom Bestows Well-Being

3 My son,^(A) do not forget my teaching,^(B)
but keep my commands in your heart,
²for they will prolong your life many years^(C)
and bring you peace and prosperity.^(D)

³Let love and faithfulness^(E) never leave you;
    bind them around your neck,
    write them on the tablet of your heart.^(F)
⁴Then you will win favor and a good name
    in the sight of God and man.^(G)

⁵Trust in the Lord^(H) with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
⁶in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths^(I) straight.^[a]^(J)

⁷Do not be wise in your own eyes;^(K)
fear the Lord^(L) and shun evil.^(M)
⁸This will bring health to your body^(N)
and nourishment to your bones.^(O)

⁹Honor the Lord with your wealth,
with the firstfruits^(P) of all your crops;
¹⁰then your barns will be filled^(Q) to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.^(R)

¹¹My son,^(S) do not despise the Lord’s discipline,^(T)
and do not resent his rebuke,
¹²because the Lord disciplines those he loves,^(U)
as a father the son he delights in.^[b]^(V)

James 4:11-17

New International Version

¹¹Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another.^(A) Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister^[a] or judges them^(B) speaks against the law^(C) and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it,^(D) but sitting in judgment on it. ¹²There is only one Lawgiver and Judge,^(E) the one who is able to save and destroy.^(F) But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?^(G)

Boasting About Tomorrow

¹³Now listen,^(H) you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.”^(I) ¹⁴Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.^(J) ¹⁵Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will,^(K) we will live and do this or that.” ¹⁶As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil.^(L) ¹⁷If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.^(M)
