The Eternal Faithfulness of the Lord(A)

105 Oh, (B)give thanks to the Lord!
Call upon His name;
(C)Make known His deeds among the peoples!
Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;
(D)Talk of all His wondrous works!
Glory in His holy name;
Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!
Seek the Lord and His strength;
(E)Seek His face evermore!
(F)Remember His marvelous works which He has done,
His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,
O seed of Abraham His servant,
You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!

He is the Lord our God;
(G)His judgments are in all the earth.
He (H)remembers His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,
(I)The covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His oath to Isaac,
10 And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 Saying, (J)“To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the allotment of your inheritance,”

37 (A)He also brought them out with silver and gold,
And there was none feeble among His tribes.
38 (B)Egypt was glad when they departed,
For the fear of them had fallen upon them.
39 (C)He spread a cloud for a covering,
And fire to give light in the night.
40 (D)The people asked, and He brought quail,
And (E)satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
41 (F)He opened the rock, and water gushed out;
It ran in the dry places like a river.

42 For He remembered (G)His holy promise,
And Abraham His servant.
43 He brought out His people with joy,
His chosen ones with [a]gladness.
44 (H)He gave them the lands of the [b]Gentiles,
And they inherited the labor of the nations,
45 (I)That they might observe His statutes
And keep His laws.

[c]Praise the Lord!

Samuel’s First Prophecy

Now (A)the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And (B)the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation. And it came to pass at that time, while Eli was lying down in his place, and when his eyes had begun to grow (C)so dim that he could not see, and before (D)the lamp of God went out in the [a]tabernacle of the Lord where the ark of God was, and while Samuel was lying down, that the Lord called Samuel. And he answered, “Here I am!” So he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.”

And he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” And he went and lay down.

Then the Lord called yet again, “Samuel!”

So Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” He answered, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.” (Now Samuel (E)did not yet know the Lord, nor was the word of the Lord yet revealed to him.)

And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. So he arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you did call me.”

Then Eli perceived that the Lord had called the boy. Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, (F)‘Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

Stand Fast

13 But we are [a]bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God (A)from the beginning (B)chose you for salvation (C)through [b]sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, 14 to which He called you by our gospel, for (D)the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 Therefore, brethren, (E)stand fast and hold (F)the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our [c]epistle.

16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, (G)who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and (H)good hope by grace, 17 comfort your hearts (I)and [d]establish you in every good word and work.

Pray for Us

Finally, brethren, (J)pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you, and (K)that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; (L)for not all have faith.

But (M)the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and (N)guard you from the evil one. And (O)we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, both that you do and will do the things we command you.

Now may (P)the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ.
