A Prayer for Mercy
For the choir director: with stringed instruments, according to Sheminith.(A) A psalm of David.
6 Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger;
do not discipline me in your wrath.(B)
2 Be gracious to me, Lord, for I am weak;[a](C)
heal me,(D) Lord, for my bones are shaking;(E)
3 my whole being is shaken with terror.(F)
And you, Lord – how long?(G)
4 Turn, Lord! Rescue me;
save me because of your faithful love.(H)
5 For there is no remembrance of you in death;
who can thank you in Sheol?(I)
6 I am weary from my groaning;(J)
with my tears I dampen my bed
and drench my couch every night.(K)
7 My eyes are swollen from grief;(L)
they grow old because of all my enemies.
8 Depart from me, all evildoers,
for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping.(M)
9 The Lord has heard my plea for help;(N)
the Lord accepts my prayer.(O)
10 All my enemies will be ashamed and shake with terror;
they will turn back(P) and suddenly be disgraced.(Q)
Prayer for Justice
A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning the words of Cush, a Benjaminite.
7 Lord my God, I seek refuge in you;(R)
save me from all my pursuers and rescue me,(S)
2 or they[b] will tear me like a lion,
ripping me apart with no one to rescue me.(T)
3 Lord my God, if I have done this,
if there is injustice on my hands,(U)
4 if I have done harm to one at peace with me(V)
or have plundered[c] my adversary without cause,(W)
5 may an enemy pursue and overtake me;
may he trample me to the ground(X)
and leave my honour in the dust.(Y) Selah
6 Rise up, Lord, in your anger;
lift yourself up against the fury of my adversaries;(Z)
awake for me;[d](AA)
you have ordained a judgement.(AB)
7 Let the assembly of peoples gather around you;(AC)
take your seat on high over it.(AD)
8 The Lord judges the peoples;(AE)
vindicate me, Lord,
according to my righteousness and my integrity.(AF)
9 Let the evil of the wicked come to an end,(AG)
but establish the righteous.(AH)
The one who examines the thoughts and emotions[e]
is a righteous God.(AI)
10 My shield is with God,(AJ)
who saves the upright in heart.(AK)
11 God is a righteous judge
and a God who shows his wrath every day.(AL)
12 If anyone does not repent,
he will sharpen his sword;(AM)
he has strung his bow and made it ready.(AN)
13 He has prepared his deadly weapons;
he tips his arrows with fire.(AO)
14 See, the wicked one is pregnant with evil,
conceives trouble, and gives birth to deceit.(AP)
15 He dug a pit and hollowed it out
but fell into the hole he had made.(AQ)
16 His trouble comes back on his own head;
his own violence comes down on top of his head.(AR)
17 I will thank the Lord for his righteousness;
I will sing about the name of the Lord Most High.(AS)

8 Lord, our Lord,
how magnificent is your name throughout the earth!(AU)
You have covered the heavens with your majesty.[f](AV)
2 From the mouths of infants and nursing babies,(AW)
you have established a stronghold[g]
on account of your adversaries
in order to silence the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I observe your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you set in place,(AX)
4 what is a human being that you remember him,
a son of man[h] that you look after him?(AY)
5 You made him a little less than God[i][j]
and crowned him with glory and honour.
6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
you put everything under his feet:(AZ)
7 all the sheep and oxen,
as well as the animals in the wild,
8 the birds of the sky,
and the fish of the sea
that pass through the currents of the seas.(BA)
9 Lord, our Lord,
how magnificent is your name throughout the earth!
