och sina under på Soans slätter.
44 Han förvandlade deras floder till blod,
och de kunde inte dricka vatten ur bäckarna.
45 Han sände stora svärmar med flugor som åt dem
och grodor som förstörde.
46 Han gav deras gröda åt gräshoppor
och deras skörd åt skadedjur.[a]
47 Han förstörde deras vinrankor med hagel
och mullbärsfikonträden med slagregn[b].
48 Han utlämnade deras boskap åt hagel
och deras hjordar åt blixten.[c]
49 Han släppte loss sin glödande vrede över dem,
vrede, harm och förbittring,
en skara av olycksänglar.
50 Han gav sin vrede fritt utlopp
och skonade inte deras liv,
utan lät dem dö av pest.
51 Han slog allt förstfött i Egypten,
de förstfödda av manligt kön i Hams hyddor.
52 Han ledde ut sitt folk som en flock,
han ledde dem som en hjord genom öknen.
53 Han ledde dem tryggt, så att de inte behövde frukta,
och havet täckte deras fiender.
54 Han ledde dem till gränsen av sitt heliga land,
till det berg som hans makts hand hade erövrat.
55 Han drev bort folken framför dem,
han delade ut deras land som arvedel
och lät Israels stammar bosätta sig i deras tält.
56 Men de prövade Gud, den Högste, var upproriska mot honom
och höll inte hans befallningar.
57 De vände sig bort i trolöshet som sina fäder,
bort, som en förrädisk båge.
58 De retade upp honom med sina offerplatser
och gjorde honom svartsjuk med sina avgudabilder.
59 När Gud hörde dem blev han vred,
och han förkastade Israel helt.
60 Han övergav sin boning i Shilo,
det tält han hade satt upp bland människorna.
61 Han lät sin makt[d] föras bort i fångenskap
och överlämnade sin härlighet i fiendehänder.
62 Han överlämnade sitt folk åt svärdet
och var vred på sin egendom.
63 Deras unga män förtärdes av eld,
och för deras unga flickor sjöngs aldrig någon bröllopssång.
64 Prästerna dödades med svärd
och deras änkor kunde inte hålla någon dödsklagan.
65 Då vaknade Herren, som ur en sömn,
som en krigare som varit upprymd av vin.
66 Han slog tillbaka sina fiender,
han skickade bort dem till evig skam.
67 Han förkastade Josefs boningar,
han utvalde inte Efraims stam.
68 I stället utvalde han Judas stam
och berget Sion som han älskade.
69 Där byggde han sin helgedom likt höjderna,
lika orubbligt som jorden som han grundlagt för evigt.
70 Han utsåg David till sin tjänare
och hämtade honom från fårfållorna.
71 Från fåren hämtade han honom,
för att bli herde för hans folk Jakob,
för Israel, hans arvedel.
72 Han var herde för dem med ett uppriktigt hjärta,
han ledde dem med skicklig hand.

43 the day he displayed his signs(A) in Egypt,
his wonders(B) in the region of Zoan.
44 He turned their river into blood;(C)
they could not drink from their streams.
45 He sent swarms of flies(D) that devoured them,
and frogs(E) that devastated them.
46 He gave their crops to the grasshopper,(F)
their produce to the locust.(G)
47 He destroyed their vines with hail(H)
and their sycamore-figs with sleet.
48 He gave over their cattle to the hail,
their livestock(I) to bolts of lightning.
49 He unleashed against them his hot anger,(J)
his wrath, indignation and hostility—
a band of destroying angels.(K)
50 He prepared a path for his anger;
he did not spare them from death
but gave them over to the plague.
51 He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt,(L)
the firstfruits of manhood in the tents of Ham.(M)
52 But he brought his people out like a flock;(N)
he led them like sheep through the wilderness.
53 He guided them safely, so they were unafraid;
but the sea engulfed(O) their enemies.(P)
54 And so he brought them to the border of his holy land,
to the hill country his right hand(Q) had taken.
55 He drove out nations(R) before them
and allotted their lands to them as an inheritance;(S)
he settled the tribes of Israel in their homes.
56 But they put God to the test
and rebelled against the Most High;
they did not keep his statutes.
57 Like their ancestors(T) they were disloyal and faithless,
as unreliable as a faulty bow.(U)
58 They angered him(V) with their high places;(W)
they aroused his jealousy with their idols.(X)
59 When God heard(Y) them, he was furious;(Z)
he rejected Israel(AA) completely.
60 He abandoned the tabernacle of Shiloh,(AB)
the tent he had set up among humans.(AC)
61 He sent the ark of his might(AD) into captivity,(AE)
his splendor into the hands of the enemy.
62 He gave his people over to the sword;(AF)
he was furious with his inheritance.(AG)
63 Fire consumed(AH) their young men,
and their young women had no wedding songs;(AI)
64 their priests were put to the sword,(AJ)
and their widows could not weep.
65 Then the Lord awoke as from sleep,(AK)
as a warrior wakes from the stupor of wine.
66 He beat back his enemies;
he put them to everlasting shame.(AL)
67 Then he rejected the tents of Joseph,
he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim;(AM)
68 but he chose the tribe of Judah,(AN)
Mount Zion,(AO) which he loved.
69 He built his sanctuary(AP) like the heights,
like the earth that he established forever.
70 He chose David(AQ) his servant
and took him from the sheep pens;
71 from tending the sheep(AR) he brought him
to be the shepherd(AS) of his people Jacob,
of Israel his inheritance.
72 And David shepherded them with integrity of heart;(AT)
with skillful hands he led them.
