Psalm 2

The Reign of the Lord’s Anointed.

2 Why are ^(A)the ^[a]nations restless
And the peoples ^(B)plotting in vain?
²The ^(C)kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers conspire together
^(D)Against the Lord and against His ^[b]^(E)Anointed, saying,
³“Let’s ^(F)tear their shackles apart
And throw their ropes away from us!”

⁴He who ^[c]sits in the heavens ^(G)laughs,
The Lord ^(H)scoffs at them.
⁵Then He will speak to them in His ^(I)anger
And ^(J)terrify them in His fury, saying,
⁶“But as for Me, I have installed ^(K)My King
Upon Zion, ^(L)My holy mountain.”

⁷“I will announce the ^[d]decree of the Lord:
He said to Me, ‘You are ^(M)My Son,
Today I have fathered You.
⁸Ask it of Me, and ^(N)I will certainly give ^(O)the ^[e]nations as Your inheritance,
And the ^(P)ends of the earth as Your possession.
⁹You shall ^[f]^(Q)break them with a ^[g]rod of iron,
You shall ^(R)shatter them like ^[h]earthenware.’”

¹⁰Now then, you kings, ^(S)use insight;
Let yourselves be instructed, you ^[i]judges of the earth.
¹¹Serve the Lord with ^[j]^(T)reverence
And rejoice with ^(U)trembling.
¹²^[k]Kiss ^(V)the Son, that He not be angry and you perish on the way,
For ^(W)His wrath may be kindled quickly.
How blessed are all who ^(X)take refuge in Him!

God’s Wrath against Nations

34 Come near, ^(A)you nations, to hear; and listen, you peoples!
^(B)Let the earth and ^[a]all it contains hear, and the world and all that springs from it.
²For the Lord’s ^(C)anger is against all the nations,
And His wrath against all their armies.
He has ^[b]^(D)utterly destroyed them,
He has turned them over to ^(E)slaughter.
³So their slain will be ^(F)thrown out,
And their corpses ^[c]will give off their ^(G)stench,
And the mountains will ^[d]be drenched with their ^(H)blood.
⁴And ^(I)all the heavenly ^[e]lights will ^[f]wear away,
And the ^(J)sky will be rolled up like a scroll;
All its ^[g]lights will also wither away
As a leaf withers from the vine,
Or as one withers from the fig tree.
⁵For ^(K)My sword has drunk its fill in heaven;
Behold it shall descend for judgment upon ^(L)Edom,
And upon the people whom I have ^(M)designated for destruction.
⁶The sword of the Lord is filled with blood,
It drips with fat, with the blood of lambs and goats,
With the fat of the kidneys of rams.
For the Lord has a sacrifice in ^(N)Bozrah,
And a great slaughter in the land of ^(O)Edom.
⁷^(P)Wild oxen will also ^[h]fall with them
And ^(Q)young bulls with strong ones;
So their land will be ^(R)soaked with blood,
And their dust ^[i]become greasy with fat.
⁸For the Lord has a day of ^(S)vengeance,
A year of retribution for the ^[j]cause of Zion.
⁹^[k]Its streams will be turned into pitch,
And its loose earth into ^(T)brimstone,
And its land will become burning pitch.
¹⁰It will ^(U)not be extinguished night or day;
Its ^(V)smoke will go up forever.
From ^(W)generation to generation it will be desolate;
^(X)None will pass through it forever and ever.
¹¹But ^[l]^(Y)pelican and hedgehog will possess it,
And ^[m]owl and raven will dwell in it;
And He will stretch over it the ^(Z)line of ^[n]desolation
And the ^[o]plumb line of emptiness.
¹²Its nobles—there is ^(AA)no one there
Whom they may proclaim king—
And all its officials will be ^(AB)nothing.
¹³Thorns will come up in its ^(AC)fortified towers,
Weeds and thistles in its fortified cities;
It will also be a haunt of ^(AD)jackals
And a habitat of ostriches.
¹⁴The desert ^(AE)creatures will meet with the ^[p]wolves,
The ^[q]^(AF)goat also will cry to its kind.
Yes, the ^[r]night-bird will settle there
And will find herself a resting place.
¹⁵The tree snake will make its nest and lay eggs there,
And it will hatch and gather them under its ^[s]protection.
Yes, ^(AG)the ^[t]hawks will be gathered there,
Every one with its kind.

¹⁶Seek from the ^(AH)book of the Lord, and read:

Not one of these will be missing;
None will lack its mate.
For ^[u]^(AI)His mouth has commanded,
And His Spirit has gathered them.

63 Who is this who comes from ^(A)Edom,

This One who is majestic in His apparel,
^[b]Marching in the greatness of His strength?
“It is I, the One who speaks in righteousness, ^(D)mighty to save.”
²Why is Your apparel red,
And Your garments like one who ^(E)treads in the wine press?
³“^(F)I have trodden the wine trough alone,
And from the peoples there was no one with Me.
I also ^(G)trod them in My anger
And ^(H)trampled them in My wrath;
And ^(I)their ^[c]lifeblood is sprinkled on My garments,
And I ^[d]stained all My clothes.
⁴For the ^(J)day of vengeance was in My heart,
And My year of redemption has come.
⁵I looked, but there was ^(K)no one to help,
And I was astonished and there was no one to uphold;
So My ^(L)own arm brought salvation to Me,
And My wrath upheld Me.
⁶I ^(M)trampled down the peoples in My anger
And made them ^(N)drunk with My wrath,
And I ^[e]poured out their lifeblood on the earth.”

3 “^[a]For behold, ^(A)in those days and at that time,
When I ^(B)restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,
²I will ^(C)gather all the nations
And bring them down to the ^(D)Valley of ^[b]Jehoshaphat.
Then I will ^(E)enter into judgment with them there
On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel,
Whom they have ^(F)scattered among the nations;
And they have ^(G)divided up My land.
³They have also ^(H)cast lots for My people,
^[c]^(I)Traded a boy for a prostitute,
And sold a girl for wine so that they may drink.

⁴Moreover, what are you to Me, ^(J)Tyre, Sidon, and all the regions of ^(K)Philistia? Are you repaying Me with retribution? But if you are showing Me retribution, swiftly and speedily I will ^(L)return your retribution on your head! ⁵Since you have ^(M)taken My silver and My gold, brought My precious ^[d]treasures to your temples, ⁶and sold the ^(N)sons of Judah and Jerusalem to the ^[e]Greeks in order to remove them far from their territory, ⁷behold, I am going to ^(O)stir them up from the place where you have sold them, and return your retribution on your head. ⁸I will also ^(P)sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the sons of Judah, and they will sell them to the ^(Q)Sabeans, to a distant nation,” for the Lord has spoken.

⁹^(R)Proclaim this among the nations:
^(S)Prepare for holy war; ^(T)stir up the warriors!
Have all the soldiers come forward, have them come up!
¹⁰^(U)Beat your plowshares into swords,
And your pruning hooks into spears;
^(V)Let the weak man say, “I am a warrior.”
¹¹^[f]^(W)Hurry and come, all you surrounding nations,
And gather yourselves there.
Bring down, Lord, Your ^(X)warriors.
¹²Let the nations be awakened
And come up to the ^(Y)Valley of ^[g]Jehoshaphat,
For there I will sit to ^(Z)judge
All the surrounding nations.
¹³^(AA)Put in the sickle, for the ^(AB)harvest is ripe.
Come, ^(AC)tread the grapes, for the ^(AD)wine press is full;
The vats overflow, for their ^(AE)wickedness is great.
¹⁴^(AF)Multitudes, multitudes in the ^(AG)valley of ^[h]decision!
For the ^(AH)day of the Lord is near in the valley of ^[i]decision.
¹⁵The ^(AI)sun and moon have become dark,
And the stars have lost their brightness.
¹⁶The Lord ^(AJ)roars from Zion
And ^(AK)utters His voice from Jerusalem,
And the ^(AL)heavens and the earth quake.
But the Lord is a ^(AM)refuge for His people,
And a ^(AN)stronghold for the sons of Israel.
¹⁷Then you will ^(AO)know that I am the Lord your God,
Dwelling on Zion, My ^(AP)holy mountain.
So Jerusalem will be ^(AQ)holy,
And ^(AR)strangers will no longer pass through it.

Jerusalem to Be Attacked

12 The pronouncement of the word of the Lord concerning Israel:

The Lord who ^(A)stretches out the heavens, ^(B)lays the foundation of the earth, and ^(C)forms the spirit of a person within him, declares: ²“Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a ^(D)cup ^[a]that causes staggering to all the peoples around; and when the siege is against Jerusalem, it will also be against ^(E)Judah. ³It will come about on that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy ^(F)stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will ^(G)injure themselves severely. And all the ^(H)nations of the earth will be gathered against it. ⁴On that day,” declares the Lord, “I will strike every horse with confusion and its rider with insanity. But I will ^[b]watch over the house of Judah, while I strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. ⁵Then the ^[c]clans of Judah will say in their hearts, ‘The inhabitants of Jerusalem are a ^[d]strong support for us through the Lord of armies, their God.’

⁶“On that day I will make the ^[e]clans of Judah like a ^(I)firepot among pieces of wood and a flaming torch among sheaves, so they will consume on the right and on the left all the surrounding peoples, while ^[f]the ^(J)inhabitants of Jerusalem again live on their own sites in Jerusalem. ⁷The Lord also will ^(K)save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of ^(L)David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem will not be greater than Judah. ⁸On that day the Lord will ^(M)protect the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the one who ^[g]^(N)is feeble among them on that day will be like David, and the house of David will be like ^(O)God, like the ^(P)angel of the Lord before them. ⁹And on that day I will ^(Q)seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

Zechariah 14:1-15

God Will Battle Jerusalem’s Enemies

14 Behold, a ^(A)day is coming for the Lord when ^(B)the spoils taken from you will be divided among you. ²For I will ^(C)gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be taken, the ^(D)houses plundered, the women raped, and half of the city exiled, but the rest of the people will not be eliminated from the city. ³Then the Lord will go forth and ^(E)fight against those nations, as ^[a]when He fights on a day of battle. ⁴On that day His feet will ^(F)stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be ^(G)split ^[b]in its middle from east to west forming a very large valley. Half of the mountain will move toward the north, and the other half toward the south. ⁵And you will flee by the valley of My mountains, for the valley of the mountains will reach to Azel; yes, you will flee just as you fled from the ^(H)earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. ^(I)Then the Lord, my God, will come, and all the holy ones with ^[c]Him!

⁶On that day there will be ^(J)no light; the ^[d]luminaries will die out. ⁷For it will be ^(K)a unique day which is ^(L)known to the Lord, neither day nor night, but it will come about that at the ^(M)time of evening there will be light.

⁸And on that day ^(N)living waters will flow out of Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and the other half toward the western sea; it will be in summer as well as in winter.

God Will Be King over All

⁹And the Lord will be ^(O)King over all the earth; on that day the Lord will be the only ^(P)one, and His name the only one.

¹⁰All the land will change into a plain from ^(Q)Geba to ^(R)Rimmon south of Jerusalem; but ^[e]Jerusalem will ^(S)rise and ^(T)remain on its site from ^(U)Benjamin’s Gate as far as the place of the First Gate to the ^(V)Corner Gate, and from the ^(W)Tower of Hananel to the king’s wine presses. ¹¹People will live in it, and there will ^(X)no longer be a curse, for Jerusalem will ^(Y)live in security.

¹²Now this will be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the peoples who have gone to war against Jerusalem; their flesh will ^(Z)rot while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongue will rot in their mouth. ¹³And it will come about on that day that a great panic from the Lord will ^[f]fall on them; and they will ^(AA)seize one another’s hand, and the hand of one will ^[g]be raised against the hand of another. ¹⁴^(AB)Judah also will fight at Jerusalem; and the ^(AC)wealth of all the surrounding nations will be gathered, gold, silver, and garments in great abundance. ¹⁵And just like this ^(AD)plague, there will be a plague on the horse, the mule, the camel, the donkey, and all the cattle that will be in those camps.

⁴“^(J)Remember the Law of Moses My servant, the statutes and ordinances which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel.

¹⁷And another angel ^(G)came out of the ^[f]temple which is in heaven, and he also had a sharp sickle. ¹⁸Then another angel, ^(H)the one who has power over fire, came out from ^(I)the altar; and he called with a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, “^[g]^(J)Put in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters ^[h]from the vine of the earth, ^(K)because her grapes are ripe.” ¹⁹So the angel ^[i]swung his sickle to the earth and gathered the clusters from the vine of the earth, and threw them into ^(L)the great wine press of the wrath of God. ²⁰And ^(M)the wine press was trampled ^(N)outside the city, and ^(O)blood came out from the wine press, up to the horses’ bridles, ^[j]for a distance of ^[k]1,600 stadia.
