⁴ He who ^(E)sits in the heavens ^(F)laughs;
    the Lord holds them in derision.
⁵ Then he will speak to them in his ^(G)wrath,
    and terrify them in his fury, saying,
⁶ “As for me, I have ^(H)set my King
    on ^(I)Zion, my ^(J)holy hill.”

⁷ I will tell of the decree:
The Lord said to me, ^(K)“You are my Son;
    today I have begotten you.
⁸ Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
    and ^(L)the ends of the earth your possession.
⁹ You shall ^(M)break^[b] them with ^(N)a rod of iron
    and dash them in pieces like ^(O)a potter's vessel.”

¹⁰ Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
    be warned, O rulers of the earth.
^11 (P)Serve the Lord with ^(Q)fear,
    and ^(R)rejoice with ^(S)trembling.
^12 (T)Kiss ^(U)the Son,
    lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
    for his ^(V)wrath is quickly kindled.
^(W)Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

⁵ Let ^(M)the heavens praise your ^(N)wonders, O Lord,
    your faithfulness in the assembly of ^(O)the holy ones!
⁶ For ^(P)who in the skies can be compared to the Lord?
    ^(Q)Who among the heavenly beings^[b] is like the Lord,
⁷ a God greatly ^(R)to be feared in the council of ^(S)the holy ones,
    and awesome above all ^(T)who are around him?
⁸ O Lord God of hosts,
    ^(U)who is mighty as you are, O ^(V)Lord,
    with your faithfulness all around you?
⁹ You rule the raging of the sea;
    when its waves rise, you ^(W)still them.
¹⁰ You ^(X)crushed ^(Y)Rahab like a carcass;
    you ^(Z)scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.
^11 (AA)The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours;
    ^(AB)the world and all that is in it, you have ^(AC)founded them.
^12 (AD)The north and the south, you have created them;
    ^(AE)Tabor and ^(AF)Hermon ^(AG)joyously praise your name.
¹³ You have a mighty arm;
    strong is your hand, high your right hand.
^14 (AH)Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
    ^(AI)steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.
¹⁵ Blessed are the people who know ^(AJ)the festal shout,
    who walk, O Lord, in ^(AK)the light of your face,
¹⁶ who exult in your ^(AL)name all the day
    and in your righteousness are ^(AM)exalted.
¹⁷ For you are ^(AN)the glory of their strength;
    by your favor our ^(AO)horn is exalted.
¹⁸ For our ^(AP)shield belongs to the Lord,
    our king to ^(AQ)the Holy One of Israel.

^19 (AR)Of old you spoke in a vision to your godly one,^[c] and said:
    “I have ^(AS)granted help to one who is ^(AT)mighty;
    I have exalted one ^(AU)chosen from the people.
^20 (AV)I have found David, my servant;
    with my holy oil I have ^(AW)anointed him,
²¹ so that my ^(AX)hand shall be established with him;
    my arm also shall strengthen him.
²² The enemy shall not outwit him;
    ^(AY)the wicked shall not humble him.
²³ I will ^(AZ)crush his foes before him
    and strike down those who hate him.
²⁴ My ^(BA)faithfulness and my ^(BB)steadfast love shall be with him,
    and in my name shall his ^(BC)horn be exalted.
²⁵ I will set his hand on ^(BD)the sea
    and his right hand on ^(BE)the rivers.
²⁶ He shall cry to me, ‘You are my ^(BF)Father,
    my God, and ^(BG)the Rock of my salvation.’
²⁷ And I will make him the ^(BH)firstborn,
    ^(BI)the highest of the kings of the earth.
²⁸ My steadfast love I will keep for him forever,
    and my ^(BJ)covenant will stand firm^[d] for him.
²⁹ I will establish his ^(BK)offspring forever
    and his ^(BL)throne as ^(BM)the days of the heavens.
^30 (BN)If his children forsake my law
    and do not walk according to my rules,^[e]
31 if they violate my statutes
    and do not keep my commandments,
³² then I will punish their transgression with ^(BO)the rod
    and their iniquity with stripes,
³³ but I will not remove from him my steadfast love
    or be false to my faithfulness.
³⁴ I will not violate my ^(BP)covenant
    or alter the word that went forth from my lips.
³⁵ Once for all I have sworn ^(BQ)by my holiness;
    I will not ^(BR)lie to David.
³⁶ His ^(BS)offspring shall endure forever,
    ^(BT)his ^(BU)throne as long as ^(BV)the sun before me.
³⁷ Like ^(BW)the moon it shall be established forever,
    ^(BX)a faithful witness in the skies.” Selah

³⁸ But now you have ^(BY)cast off and rejected;
    you are full of wrath against your ^(BZ)anointed.
³⁹ You have ^(CA)renounced ^(CB)the covenant with your servant;
    you have ^(CC)defiled his ^(CD)crown in the dust.
⁴⁰ You have ^(CE)breached all his walls;
    you have laid his strongholds in ruins.
^41 (CF)All who pass by plunder him;
    he has become ^(CG)the scorn of his neighbors.
⁴² You have exalted the right hand of his foes;
    you have made all his enemies rejoice.
⁴³ You have also turned back the edge of his sword,
    and you have not made him stand in battle.
⁴⁴ You have made his splendor to cease
    and cast his throne to the ground.
⁴⁵ You have cut short ^(CH)the days of his youth;
    you have ^(CI)covered him with shame. Selah

^46 (CJ)How long, O Lord? Will you hide yourself forever?
    How long will your wrath ^(CK)burn like fire?
^47 (CL)Remember ^(CM)how short my ^(CN)time is!
    For what vanity you have created all the children of man!

⁴⁹ Lord, where is your ^(CR)steadfast love of old,
    which by your ^(CS)faithfulness you swore to David?
^50 (CT)Remember, O Lord, how your servants are mocked,
    and how I bear in my ^(CU)heart the insults^[f] of all the many nations,
⁵¹ with which your enemies mock, O Lord,
    with which they mock ^(CV)the footsteps of your ^(CW)anointed.

^6 (K)The wolf shall dwell with the lamb,
    and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together;
    and a little child shall lead them.
⁷ The cow and the bear shall graze;
    their young shall lie down together;
    and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
⁸ The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra,
    and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder's den.
^9 (L)They shall not hurt or destroy
    in all ^(M)my holy mountain;
^(N)for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord
    as the waters cover the sea.

¹² He will raise ^(AA)a signal for the nations
    and will assemble ^(AB)the banished of Israel,
and gather the dispersed of Judah
    from the four corners of the earth.
^13 (AC)The jealousy of Ephraim shall depart,
    and those who harass Judah shall be cut off;
Ephraim shall not be jealous of Judah,
    and Judah shall not harass Ephraim.
^14 (AD)But they shall swoop down on the shoulder of the Philistines in the west,
    and together they shall plunder ^(AE)the people of the east.
They shall put out their hand ^(AF)against ^(AG)Edom and ^(AH)Moab,
    and ^(AI)the Ammonites shall obey them.
¹⁵ And the Lord will utterly destroy^{[b]
    (AJ)}the tongue of the Sea of Egypt,
and will wave his hand over ^(AK)the River^[c]
    with his scorching breath,^[d]
and strike it into seven channels,
    and he will lead people across in sandals.
¹⁶ And there will be ^(AL)a highway from Assyria
    for the remnant that remains of his people,
^(AM)as there was for Israel
    when they came up from the land of Egypt.

^(A)“Strike the capitals until ^(B)the thresholds ^(C)shake,
    ^(D)and shatter them on the heads of all the people;^[b]
and those who are left of them I will kill with the sword;
    ^(E)not one of them shall flee away;
    not one of them shall escape.

^2 (F)“If they dig into Sheol,
    from there shall my hand take them;
^(G)if they climb up to heaven,
    from there I will bring them down.
³ If they hide themselves on ^(H)the top of Carmel,
    from there I will search them out and take them;
^(I)and if they hide from my sight at the bottom of the sea,
    there I will command the serpent, and it shall bite them.
^4 (J)And if they go into captivity before their enemies,
    there I will command the sword, and it shall kill them;
^(K)and I will fix my eyes upon them
    for evil and not for good.”

⁵ The Lord God of hosts,
he who touches the earth and ^(L)it melts,
    and all who dwell in it mourn,
^(M)and all of it rises like the Nile,
    ^(N)and sinks again, like the Nile of Egypt;
^6 (O)who builds his upper chambers in the heavens
    and founds his vault upon the earth;
^(P)who calls for the waters of the sea
    and pours them out upon the surface of the earth—
^(Q)the Lord is his name.

⁷ “Are you not like ^(R)the Cushites to me,
    O people of Israel?” declares the Lord.
^(S)“Did I not bring up Israel from the land of Egypt,
    and ^(T)the Philistines from ^(U)Caphtor and the Syrians from ^(V)Kir?
⁸ Behold, ^(W)the eyes of the Lord God are upon the sinful kingdom,
    and I will destroy it from the surface of the ground,
    ^(X)except that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,”
declares the Lord.

⁹ “For behold, I will command,
    ^(Y)and shake the house of Israel among all the nations
as one shakes with a sieve,
    but no pebble shall fall to the earth.
¹⁰ All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword,
    who say, ^(Z)‘Disaster shall not overtake or meet us.’

¹³ “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord,
    ^(AD)“when the plowman shall overtake the reaper
    and the treader of grapes him who sows the seed;
^(AE)the mountains shall drip sweet wine,
    and all the hills shall flow with it.
^14 (AF)I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel,
    and ^(AG)they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them;
^(AH)they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine,
    and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit.
