⁴⁸ And he stood between the dead and the living, and ^(A)the plague was stopped.

⁶ And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you ^(A)are not alarmed, for this ^(B)must take place, but the end is not yet. ⁷ For ^(C)nation will rise against nation, and ^(D)kingdom against kingdom, and there will be ^(E)famines and earthquakes in various places.

The Tenth Plague: Death of the Firstborn

^29 (A)At midnight the ^(B)Lord struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, ^(C)from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock. ³⁰ And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians. And there was ^(D)a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where someone was not dead.

³ and ^(A)all ate the same ^(B)spiritual food, ⁴ and ^(C)all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. ⁵ Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for ^(D)they were overthrown^[a] in the wilderness.

⁶ Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as ^(E)they did. ^7 (F)Do not be idolaters ^(G)as some of them were; as it is written, ^(H)“The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” ^8 (I)We must not indulge in sexual immorality ^(J)as some of them did, and ^(K)twenty-three thousand fell in a single day. ⁹ We must not put Christ^[b] to the test, ^(L)as some of them did and ^(M)were destroyed by serpents, ¹⁰ nor grumble, ^(N)as some of them did and ^(O)were destroyed by ^(P)the Destroyer.

³⁵ And that night ^(A)the angel of the Lord went out and struck down 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians. And when people arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.

^15 (A)So the Lord sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning until the appointed time. And there died of the people from ^(B)Dan to Beersheba 70,000 men.
