You rule over the surging sea;
    when its waves mount up, you still them.(A)
10 You crushed Rahab(B) like one of the slain;
    with your strong arm you scattered(C) your enemies.
11 The heavens are yours,(D) and yours also the earth;(E)
    you founded the world and all that is in it.(F)
12 You created the north and the south;
    Tabor(G) and Hermon(H) sing for joy(I) at your name.
13 Your arm is endowed with power;
    your hand is strong, your right hand exalted.(J)

14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;(K)
    love and faithfulness go before you.(L)
15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,
    who walk(M) in the light(N) of your presence, Lord.
16 They rejoice in your name(O) all day long;
    they celebrate your righteousness.
17 For you are their glory and strength,(P)
    and by your favor you exalt our horn.[a](Q)
18 Indeed, our shield[b](R) belongs to the Lord,
    our king(S) to the Holy One of Israel.

Sluggards(A) do not plow in season;
    so at harvest time they look but find nothing.(B)

The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters,(C)

46 An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest.(A) 47 Jesus, knowing their thoughts,(B) took a little child and had him stand beside him. 48 Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.(C) For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.”(D)

49 “Master,”(E) said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.”

50 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said, “for whoever is not against you is for you.”(F)

Samaritan Opposition

51 As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven,(G) Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.(H) 52 And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan(I) village to get things ready for him; 53 but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. 54 When the disciples James and John(J) saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them[a]?”(K) 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them. 56 Then he and his disciples went to another village.

13 And we also thank God continually(A) because, when you received the word of God,(B) which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe. 14 For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators(C) of God’s churches in Judea,(D) which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people(E) the same things those churches suffered from the Jews 15 who killed the Lord Jesus(F) and the prophets(G) and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to everyone 16 in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles(H) so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit.(I) The wrath of God has come upon them at last.[a]

Paul’s Longing to See the Thessalonians

17 But, brothers and sisters, when we were orphaned by being separated from you for a short time (in person, not in thought),(J) out of our intense longing we made every effort to see you.(K) 18 For we wanted to come to you—certainly I, Paul, did, again and again—but Satan(L) blocked our way.(M) 19 For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown(N) in which we will glory(O) in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes?(P) Is it not you? 20 Indeed, you are our glory(Q) and joy.
