¹⁶ “O Lord, ^(A)according to all your righteous acts, let your anger and your wrath turn away from your city Jerusalem, ^(B)your holy hill, ^(C)because for our sins, and for ^(D)the iniquities of our fathers, ^(E)Jerusalem and your people have become ^(F)a byword among all who are around us.

¹⁴ Moreover, I will make you ^(A)a desolation and ^(B)an object of reproach among ^(C)the nations all around you and in the sight of all who pass by. ¹⁵ You shall be^[a] a reproach and a taunt, a warning ^(D)and a horror, to ^(E)the nations all around you, ^(F)when I execute judgments on you in anger and fury, and ^(G)with furious rebukes—I am the Lord; I have spoken—

^17 (A)“Israel is a hunted sheep ^(B)driven away by lions. ^(C)First the king of Assyria ^(D)devoured him, and now at last ^(E)Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon ^(F)has gnawed his bones.

¹² I will take the remnant of Judah who have ^(A)set their faces to come to the land of Egypt to live, and they shall all be consumed. ^(B)In the land of Egypt they shall fall; by the sword and by famine ^(C)they shall be consumed. ^(D)From the least to the greatest, they shall die by the sword and by famine, ^(E)and they shall become an oath, a horror, ^(F)a curse, and a taunt.

^8 (A)Why do you provoke me to anger with the works of your hands, ^(B)making offerings to other gods in the land of Egypt where you have come to live, so that you may be cut off and become ^(C)a curse and a taunt among all the nations of the earth?

¹⁸ “For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: ^(A)As my anger and my wrath were poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so my wrath will be poured out on you when you go to Egypt. ^(B)You shall become an execration, a horror, a curse, and a taunt. You shall see this place no more.
