³⁹ You have renounced the covenant with your servant
    and have defiled his crown in the dust.^(A)

¹⁶ The crown^(A) has fallen from our head.^(B)
    Woe to us, for we have sinned!^(C)

⁷ They burned your sanctuary to the ground;
    they defiled^(A) the dwelling place^(B) of your Name.^(C)

²⁸ So I disgraced the dignitaries of your temple;
    I consigned Jacob to destruction^[a](A)
    and Israel to scorn.^(B)

¹² He will bring down your high fortified walls^(A)
    and lay them low;^(B)
he will bring them down to the ground,
    to the very dust.

¹¹ in my alarm I said,
    “Everyone is a liar.”^(A)

⁴⁴ You have put an end to his splendor
    and cast his throne to the ground.
