²⁰ Thus says the Lord: If any of you could break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night would not come at their appointed time,^{(A) 21} only then could my covenant with my servant David be broken, so that he would not have a son to reign on his throne, and my covenant with my ministers the Levites.^(B)

¹⁰ And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, so that they may live in their own place and be disturbed no more, and evildoers shall afflict them no more, as formerly,^{(A) 11} from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel, and I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the Lord declares to you that the Lord will make you a house.^{(B) 12} When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come forth from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.^{(C) 13} He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.^{(D) 14} I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. When he commits iniquity, I will punish him with a rod such as mortals use, with blows inflicted by human beings.^{(E) 15} But I will not take^[a] my steadfast love from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you.^{(F) 16} Your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me;^[b] your throne shall be established forever.”^(G)

¹⁷ And a voice from the heavens said, “This is my Son, the Beloved,^[a] with whom I am well pleased.”^(A)

⁹ But they shall serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.^(A)

¹⁶ ‘Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from any of the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there, nor did I choose anyone to be a ruler over my people Israel. But I have chosen Jerusalem in order that my name may be there,^[a] and I have chosen David to be over my people Israel.’^(A)

²¹ but this one became a priest with an oath because of the one who said to him,

³⁰ Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would put one of his descendants on his throne.^(A)
