⁵ Yet you made them only a little lower than God^[a]
    and crowned them^[b] with glory and honor.

⁷ Yet for a little while you made them a little lower than the angels
    and crowned them with glory and honor.^[a]

⁷ Instead, he gave up his divine privileges^[a];
    he took the humble position of a slave^[b]
    and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form,^[c]
8     he humbled himself in obedience to God
    and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

⁹ Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
    and gave him the name above all other names,
¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
    in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
¹¹ and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord,
    to the glory of God the Father.

⁴ He redeems me from death
    and crowns me with love and tender mercies.

³ You welcomed him back with success and prosperity.
    You placed a crown of finest gold on his head.
⁴ He asked you to preserve his life,
    and you granted his request.
    The days of his life stretch on forever.
⁵ Your victory brings him great honor,
    and you have clothed him with splendor and majesty.
