⁶⁸ He chose instead the tribe of Judah,
    and Mount Zion, which he loved.

² He loves the city of Jerusalem
    more than any other city in Israel.^[a]

¹² If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant
    and the laws that I teach them,
then your royal line
    will continue forever and ever.”

¹³ For the Lord has chosen Jerusalem^[a];
    he has desired it for his home.
¹⁴ “This is my resting place forever,” he said.
    “I will live here, for this is the home I desired.

Nahshon was the father of Salmon.^[a]
21 Salmon was the father of Boaz.
Boaz was the father of Obed.
²² Obed was the father of Jesse.
Jesse was the father of David.

⁸ “Judah, your brothers will praise you.
    You will grasp your enemies by the neck.
    All your relatives will bow before you.
⁹ Judah, my son, is a young lion
    that has finished eating its prey.
Like a lion he crouches and lies down;
    like a lioness—who dares to rouse him?
¹⁰ The scepter will not depart from Judah,
    nor the ruler’s staff from his descendants,^[a]
until the coming of the one to whom it belongs,^[b]
    the one whom all nations will honor.
