¹¹ See, my father, look at this piece of your robe in my hand! I cut^(A) off the corner of your robe but did not kill you. See that there is nothing in my hand to indicate that I am guilty^(B) of wrongdoing^(C) or rebellion. I have not wronged^(D) you, but you are hunting^(E) me down to take my life.^(F)

⁷ As he cursed, Shimei said, “Get out, get out, you murderer, you scoundrel! ⁸ The Lord has repaid you for all the blood you shed in the household of Saul, in whose place you have reigned.^(A) The Lord has given the kingdom into the hands of your son Absalom. You have come to ruin because you are a murderer!”^(B)

¹⁸ And he added, “Why is my lord pursuing his servant? What have I done, and what wrong^(A) am I guilty of? ¹⁹ Now let my lord the king listen^(B) to his servant’s words. If the Lord has incited you against me, then may he accept an offering.^(C) If, however, people have done it, may they be cursed before the Lord!
