¹⁶ David also commanded the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their brothers as the singers who should play loudly on ^(A)musical instruments, on harps and lyres and cymbals, to raise sounds of joy. ¹⁷ So the Levites appointed ^(B)Heman the son of Joel; and of his brothers ^(C)Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari, their brothers, ^(D)Ethan the son of Kushaiah; ¹⁸ and with them their brothers of the second order, Zechariah, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, and Mikneiah, and the gatekeepers Obed-edom and Jeiel. ¹⁹ The singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were to sound bronze cymbals; ²⁰ Zechariah, ^(E)Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah were to play harps according to ^(F)Alamoth; ²¹ but Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, ^(G)Obed-edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah were to lead with lyres according to ^(H)the Sheminith. ²² Chenaniah, leader of the Levites in music, should direct the music, for he understood it. ²³ Berechiah and Elkanah were to be gatekeepers for the ark. ²⁴ Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, should ^(I)blow the trumpets before the ark of God. ^(J)Obed-edom and Jehiah were to be gatekeepers for the ark.

¹² And it was told King David, “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” ^(A)So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom ^(B)to the city of David with rejoicing. ¹³ And when ^(C)those who bore the ark of the Lord had gone six steps, ^(D)he sacrificed an ox and a fattened animal. ¹⁴ And David ^(E)danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was ^(F)wearing a linen ephod. ¹⁵ So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn.

David and Michal

¹⁶ As the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, and she despised him in her heart. ¹⁷ And they brought in the ark of the Lord and set it ^(G)in its place, inside the tent that David had pitched for it. ^(H)And David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.

⁸ And David and all Israel were celebrating before God with all their might, with song and ^(A)lyres and harps and tambourines and cymbals and trumpets.
