Psalm 66:5-15

New International Version

⁵Come and see what God has done,
    his awesome deeds^(A) for mankind!
⁶He turned the sea into dry land,^(B)
    they passed through^(C) the waters on foot—
    come, let us rejoice^(D) in him.
⁷He rules forever^(E) by his power,
    his eyes watch^(F) the nations—
    let not the rebellious^(G) rise up against him.

⁸Praise^(H) our God, all peoples,
    let the sound of his praise be heard;
⁹he has preserved our lives^(I)
    and kept our feet from slipping.^(J)
¹⁰For you, God, tested^(K) us;
    you refined us like silver.^(L)
¹¹You brought us into prison^(M)
    and laid burdens^(N) on our backs.
¹²You let people ride over our heads;^(O)
    we went through fire and water,
    but you brought us to a place of abundance.^(P)

¹³I will come to your temple with burnt offerings^(Q)
    and fulfill my vows^(R) to you—
¹⁴vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke
    when I was in trouble.
¹⁵I will sacrifice fat animals to you
    and an offering of rams;
    I will offer bulls and goats.^(S)

Jesus Curses a Fig Tree and Clears the Temple Courts^(A)^(B)^(C)

¹²The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. ¹³Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs.^(D) ¹⁴Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.

¹⁵On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, ¹⁶and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. ¹⁷And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’^[a]?^(E) But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’^[b]”^(F)

¹⁸The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him,^(G) because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.^(H)

¹⁹When evening came, Jesus and his disciples^[c] went out of the city.^(I)

⁵⁰I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood^(A) cannot inherit the kingdom of God,^(B) nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.^(C) ⁵¹Listen, I tell you a mystery:^(D) We will not all sleep,^(E) but we will all be changed^(F)— ⁵²in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound,^(G) the dead^(H) will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. ⁵³For the perishable^(I) must clothe itself with the imperishable,^(J) and the mortal with immortality. ⁵⁴When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”^[a]^(K)

⁵⁵“Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”^[b]^(L)

⁵⁶The sting of death is sin,^(M) and the power of sin is the law.^(N) ⁵⁷But thanks be to God!^(O) He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.^(P)

⁵⁸Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord,^(Q) because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.^(R)
