    and bring them to ruin;

⁷ The mouths of fools are their undoing,
    and their lips are a snare^(A) to their very lives.^(B)

¹³ Evildoers are trapped by their sinful talk,^(A)
    and so the innocent escape trouble.^(B)

⁷ All who see you will flee^(A) from you and say,
    ‘Nineveh^(B) is in ruins^(C)—who will mourn for her?’^(D)
    Where can I find anyone to comfort^(E) you?”

²⁷ Was not Israel the object of your ridicule?^(A)
    Was she caught among thieves,^(B)
that you shake your head^(C) in scorn^(D)
    whenever you speak of her?

¹⁶ Their land will be an object of horror^(A)
    and of lasting scorn;^(B)
all who pass by will be appalled^(C)
    and will shake their heads.^(D)

⁹ Those who surround me proudly rear their heads;
    may the mischief of their lips engulf them.^(A)
