² Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
    from the scheming of evildoers,^(A)

² For wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me,
    speaking against me with lying tongues.
³ They surround me with words of hate
    and attack me without cause.^(A)

² Deliver me from those who work evil;
    from the bloodthirsty, save me.^(A)

¹⁹ But I was like a gentle lamb
    led to the slaughter.
And I did not know it was against me
    that they devised schemes, saying,
“Let us destroy the tree with its fruit;
    let us cut him off from the land of the living,
    so that his name will no longer be remembered!”^(A)

²⁰ In the shelter of your presence you hide them
    from human plots;
you hold them safe under your shelter
    from contentious tongues.^(A)

²³ Yet you, O Lord, know
    all their plotting to kill me.
Do not forgive their iniquity;
    do not blot out their sin from your sight.
Let them be tripped up before you;
    deal with them while you are angry.^(A)

⁶ They stir up strife; they lurk;
    they watch my steps,
as they hoped to take my life.^(A)
