Benediction, Final Exhortation, Farewell

²⁰ Now may ^(A)the God of peace ^(B)who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, ^(C)that great Shepherd of the sheep, ^(D)through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

²⁸ For ^(A)this is My blood ^(B)of the ^[a]new covenant, which is shed ^(C)for many for the ^[b]remission of sins.

³ So Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the ^[a]judgments. And all the people answered with one voice and said, ^(A)“All the words which the Lord has said we will do.” ⁴ And Moses ^(B)wrote all the words of the Lord. And he rose early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve ^(C)pillars according to the twelve tribes of Israel. ⁵ Then he sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered ^(D)burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the Lord. ⁶ And Moses ^(E)took half the blood and put it in basins, and half the blood he sprinkled on the altar. ⁷ Then he ^(F)took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that the Lord has said we will do, and be obedient.” ⁸ And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, “This is ^(G)the blood of the covenant which the Lord has made with you according to all these words.”

²⁴ to Jesus ^(A)the Mediator of the new covenant, and to ^(B)the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things ^(C)than that of Abel.

¹⁰ concerned only with ^(A)foods and drinks, ^(B)various ^[a]washings, ^(C)and fleshly ordinances imposed until the time of reformation.

The Heavenly Sanctuary

¹¹ But Christ came as High Priest of ^(D)the good things ^[b]to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. ¹² Not ^(E)with the blood of goats and calves, but ^(F)with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place ^(G)once for all, ^(H)having obtained eternal redemption. ¹³ For if ^(I)the blood of bulls and goats and ^(J)the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, ^[c]sanctifies for the ^[d]purifying of the flesh, ¹⁴ how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without ^[e]spot to God, ^(K)cleanse your conscience from ^(L)dead works ^(M)to serve the living God? ¹⁵ And for this reason ^(N)He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that ^(O)those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

The Mediator’s Death Necessary

¹⁶ For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. ¹⁷ For ^(P)a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. ^18 (Q)Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood. ¹⁹ For when Moses had spoken every ^[f]precept to all the people according to the law, ^(R)he took the blood of calves and goats, ^(S)with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, ²⁰ saying, ^(T)“This is the ^(U)blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.” ²¹ Then likewise ^(V)he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry. ²² And according to the law almost all things are ^[g]purified with blood, and ^(W)without shedding of blood there is no ^[h]remission.

Greatness of Christ’s Sacrifice

²³ Therefore it was necessary that ^(X)the copies of the things in the heavens should be ^[i]purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
