⁶ those who trust in their wealth
    and boast of the abundance of their riches?^(A)

⁷ “See the one who would not take
    refuge in God
but trusted in abundant riches
    and sought refuge in wealth!”^[a](A)

⁴ by your wisdom and your understanding
    you have amassed wealth for yourself
and have gathered gold and silver
    into your treasuries.^(A)
5 By your great wisdom in trade
    you have increased your wealth,
    and your heart has become proud in your wealth.^(B)

⁸ Ephraim has said, “Ah, I am rich;
    I have gained wealth for myself;
in all of my gain
    no offense has been found in me
    that would be sin.”^[a](A)

⁵ When your eyes light upon it, it is gone,
    for suddenly it takes wings to itself,
    flying like an eagle toward heaven.

²⁸ Those who trust in their riches will wither,^[a]
    but the righteous will flourish like green leaves.^(A)
