¹⁷ For when he dies he shall carry nothing away;
His glory shall not descend after him.

¹⁹ The rich man will lie down,
^[a]But not be gathered up;
He opens his eyes,
And he is ^(A)no more.

^3 (A)What will you do in ^(B)the day of punishment,
And in the desolation which will come from ^(C)afar?
To whom will you flee for help?
And where will you leave your glory?

¹⁴ Therefore Sheol has enlarged itself
And opened its mouth beyond measure;
Their glory and their multitude and their pomp,
And he who is jubilant, shall descend into it.

^15 (A)As he came from his mother’s womb, naked shall he return,
To go as he came;
And he shall take nothing from his labor
Which he may carry away in his hand.

¹⁴ With Your hand from men, O Lord,
From men of the world who have their portion in this life,
And whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure.
They are satisfied with children,
And leave the rest of their possession for their babes.
