The Call of Abram

12 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household^(A) to the land^(B) I will show you.^(C)

¹⁷ Therefore,

¹⁸ And,

7 Therefore, since we have these promises,^(E) dear friends,^(F) let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness^(G) out of reverence for God.

²⁹ And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife^[a] or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.^(A)

³⁷ “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.^(A)

¹³ and put aside the clothes she was wearing when captured. After she has lived in your house and mourned her father and mother for a full month,^(A) then you may go to her and be her husband and she shall be your wife.

²⁴ That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united^(A) to his wife, and they become one flesh.^(B)

¹⁶ So from now on we regard no one from a worldly^(A) point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.

²⁶ “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.^(A)
