Prayer to Frustrate Conspiracy Against Israel

A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.

83 Do(A) not keep silent, O God!
Do not hold Your peace,
And do not be still, O God!
For behold, (B)Your enemies make a [a]tumult;
And those who hate You have [b]lifted up their head.
They have taken crafty counsel against Your people,
And consulted together (C)against Your sheltered ones.
They have said, “Come, and (D)let us cut them off from being a nation,
That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”

For they have consulted together with one [c]consent;
They [d]form a confederacy against You:
(E)The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites;
Moab and the Hagrites;
Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek;
Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
Assyria also has joined with them;
They have helped the children of Lot. Selah

Deal with them as with (F)Midian,
As with (G)Sisera,
As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon,
10 Who perished at En Dor,
(H)Who became as refuse on the earth.
11 Make their nobles like (I)Oreb and like Zeeb,
Yes, all their princes like (J)Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 Who said, “Let us take for ourselves
The pastures of God for a possession.”

13 (K)O my God, make them like the whirling dust,
(L)Like the chaff before the wind!
14 As the fire burns the woods,
And as the flame (M)sets the mountains on fire,
15 So pursue them with Your tempest,
And frighten them with Your storm.
16 Fill their faces with shame,
That they may seek Your name, O Lord.
17 Let them be [e]confounded and dismayed forever;
Yes, let them be put to shame and perish,
18 (N)That they may know that You, whose (O)name alone is the Lord,
Are (P)the Most High over all the earth.

Then Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these (A)uncircumcised; it may be that the Lord will work for us. For nothing restrains the Lord (B)from saving by many or by few.”

So his armorbearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart. Go then; here I am with you, according to your heart.”

Then Jonathan said, “Very well, let us cross over to these men, and we will show ourselves to them. If they say thus to us, ‘Wait until we come to you,’ then we will stand still in our place and not go up to them. 10 But if they say thus, ‘Come up to us,’ then we will go up. For the Lord has delivered them into our hand, and (C)this will be a sign to us.”

So the children of Israel said to Samuel, (A)“Do not cease to cry out to the Lord our God for us, that He may save us from the hand of the Philistines.”

And Samuel took a (B)suckling lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. Then (C)Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him. 10 Now as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel. (D)But the Lord thundered with a loud thunder upon the Philistines that day, and so confused them that they were overcome before Israel. 11 And the men of Israel went out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, and [a]drove them back as far as below Beth Car. 12 Then Samuel (E)took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name [b]Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”

But the Lord said to Gideon, “The people are still too many; bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. Then it will be, that of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall go with you,’ the same shall go with you; and of whomever I say to you, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ the same shall not go.” So he brought the people down to the water. And the Lord said to Gideon, “Everyone who laps from the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set apart by himself; likewise everyone who gets down on his knees to drink.” And the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people got down on their knees to drink water. Then the Lord said to Gideon, (A)“By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, every man to his [a]place.”

And the Lord said to Joshua, (A)“Do not fear them, for I have delivered them into your hand; (B)not a man of them shall (C)stand before you.” Joshua therefore came upon them suddenly, having marched all night from Gilgal. 10 So the Lord (D)routed them before Israel, killed them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, chased them along the road that goes (E)to Beth Horon, and struck them down as far as (F)Azekah and Makkedah.
