^13 (A)“Your wealth and your treasures I will give as ^(B)spoil, without price, for all your sins, throughout all your territory.

³ For thus says the Lord: ^(A)“You were sold for nothing, and ^(B)you shall be redeemed without money.” ⁴ For thus says the Lord God: ^(C)“My people went down at the first into Egypt to sojourn there, and the Assyrian oppressed them for nothing.^[a]

¹³ cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and slaves, that is, human souls.^[a]

Israel's Sin and the Servant's Obedience

⁸ and said to them, “We, as far as we are able, ^(A)have bought back our Jewish brothers who have been sold to the nations, but you even sell your brothers that they may be sold to us!” They were silent and could not find a word to say. ⁹ So I said, “The thing that you are doing is not good. Ought you not to walk ^(B)in the fear of our God ^(C)to prevent the taunts of the nations our enemies? ¹⁰ Moreover, I and my brothers and my servants are lending them money and grain. Let us abandon this exacting of interest. ¹¹ Return to them this very day their fields, their vineyards, their olive orchards, and their houses, and the percentage of money, grain, wine, and oil that you have been exacting from them.” ¹² Then they said, “We will restore these and ^(D)require nothing from them. We will do as you say.” And I called the priests and ^(E)made them swear ^(F)to do as they had promised.

⁸ Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, ^(A)and he sold them into the hand of ^(B)Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia. And the people of Israel served Cushan-rishathaim eight years.

^14 (A)So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he ^(B)gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them. ^(C)And he sold them into the hand of their surrounding enemies, ^(D)so that they could no longer withstand their enemies.
