³² Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?”

²¹ but they kept shouting, “Crucify, crucify him!” ²² A third time he said to them, “Why? ^(A)What evil has he done? ^(B)I have found in him no guilt deserving death. ^(C)I will therefore punish and release him.” ²³ But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed.

¹³ And Saul said to him, “Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword and ^(A)have inquired of God for him, so that he has risen against me, ^(B)to lie in wait, as at this day?” ¹⁴ Then Ahimelech answered the king, “And who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and captain over^[a] your bodyguard, and honored in your house?

³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, neither you nor your kingdom shall be established. Therefore send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die.” ³² Then Jonathan answered Saul his father, ^(A)“Why should he be put to death? What has he done?” ^33 (B)But Saul hurled his spear at him to strike him. So Jonathan knew ^(C)that his father was determined to put David to death.
