⁹ Save your people^(A) and bless your inheritance;^(B)
    be their shepherd^(C) and carry them^(D) forever.

¹¹ He tends his flock like a shepherd:^(A)
    He gathers the lambs in his arms^(B)
and carries them close to his heart;^(C)
    he gently leads^(D) those that have young.^(E)

⁷¹ from tending the sheep^(A) he brought him
    to be the shepherd^(B) of his people Jacob,
    of Israel his inheritance.

⁶ “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
    are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a ruler
    who will shepherd my people Israel.’^[a]”^(A)
