    in your great mercy turn to me.

18 Come near and rescue me;
    deliver^(I) me because of my foes.

¹⁹ You know how I am scorned,^(J) disgraced and shamed;
    all my enemies are before you.
²⁰ Scorn has broken my heart
    and has left me helpless;
I looked for sympathy, but there was none,
    for comforters,^(K) but I found none.^(L)

¹⁵ From my youth^(A) I have suffered^(B) and been close to death;
    I have borne your terrors^(C) and am in despair.^(D)
16 Your wrath^(E) has swept over me;
    your terrors^(F) have destroyed me.

    they have completely engulfed me.

    darkness is my closest friend.
