²³ When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.

³⁵ When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots.^(A)

³⁷ and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.”^[a](A)

Mourning for the One They Pierced

¹⁰ “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit^[a](A) of grace and supplication.^(B) They will look on^[b] me, the one they have pierced,^(C) and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child,^(D) and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.^(E)

³³ When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left.

²⁴ And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots^(A) to see what each would get.

²⁵ So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”

But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side,^(A) I will not believe.”^(B)

³⁴ Instead, one of the soldiers pierced^(A) Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.^(B)

²³ But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed.
